Healthy Inspiration from SparkPeople

Motivational Quote - Don't hang on, nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky. It slips away, and all your money won't another minute buy.

SparkPeople's Comments

Who’s in control of your life – you or the things that you want? We can get so caught up in what we have and what we’re doing that we feel obligated to things that don’t really matter. To find real meaning, look at what will be here long after you’re gone. You can leave something behind. You have a purpose to fill that will carry on after your minutes have run out. To find out what that might be, ask yourself “what do I want to be remembered for?” In the end, what you leave for others and what your life represents is all that counts. What you grasp for and hold onto doesn’t. After all, you can’t count what’s hidden inside your closed fist.

My mother's joy came from helping others, and her kindness and self-sacrifice was evident to me every single day. Things did not really matter to her, but people mattered.
She was a wonderful model for her children. I want my children to learn that kindness and generosity matter more than material possessions. And I want them to be joyful in living a good life-----Give children happy times to remember, and instill good values.

what do I want to be remembered for
Remember me with smiles and laughter for that is the way I will remember you. If you can only remember me with tears then do not remember me at all.

This is so true. My father passed away last year, and my 82-year-old mother is preparing to move into assisted living. She and my father have lived in their house for 55 years. Being raised in the post-depression era, they didn't throw away much. And now my sister and I have the task of going through all their stuff and deciding what's worth keeping and what needs to be tossed--an arduous task that will require a large dumpster.
