Healthy Inspiration from SparkPeople

Motivational Quote - Instead of comparing our lot with that of those who are more fortunate than we are, we should compare it with the lot of the great majority of our fellow men. It then appears that we are among the privileged.

SparkPeople's Comments

Do you ever think about how green the grass is over the fence? Of course, we all do at one point or another. It is easy to compare your life in terms of its faults to the lives of others who seem to have it better. This is an important quote because it reminds us that if you really think about it, we probably have it better than the vast majority of the human population. For example, you are able to get email and read this quote of the day. To become more appreciative, make a list of all the privileges you have in one day. Everything from being able to drive to work, have a job, get email, stay at home, read the newspaper, take a walk, open your windows, turn on your air conditioning…you get the point. This exercise is helpful because all too often we take these privileges for granted.

I heard a pastor once say that 90% of the world would consider themselves wealthy if they had what we throw away! This really brings my life into perspecive. I am certainly not wealthy by USA standards, but I am probably in the top 1-2% of the world.

This quote is indeed remarkable because it is from Helen Keller. We can count so many privileges and blessings. Just last night our electrical power went out for more than two hours---- made us appreciate electricity!

I have missed the Daily Quote since the new format came out. So glad I found it here in the Daily Spark. Very glad to have it back.
