Indirect hernias in children cannot be prevented. To reduce the risk of inguinal hernia as an adult, you can:

  • Maintain a normal body weight.

  • Exercise regularly to strengthen abdominal muscles.

  • Avoid straining while defecating or urinating.

  • Avoid lifting heavy objects.
