Mostly great suggestions. I do not agree with the bagel w/ peanut butter. A regular bagel is not a complex carbohydrate... 45 grams total virtually o grams fiber, very high glycemic uptake. My favorite breakfast is an Egg Beater scramble w/ feta cheese wrapped in a low carb tortilla.

My best go-to breakfast.... Slightly thaw 1 1/2 cups of mixed frozen berries (110cal + 5g fiber) ....dump on a Yoplait Yogurt (35cal fat free/sugar free) + mix in 2 tbsp of raw chia seeds (65cal + 9g fiber) add some stevia if the berries are a bit tart and that's breakfast!!! I do this one nearly every morning. love it!!!
I saw somewhere on SparkPeople a recipe for the 1-minute breakfast sandwich. Crack an egg into one of those snack sized glad containers (sprayed with vegetable oil spray first!), mix it with a fork, add some salt and pepper, and pop into the microwave for 45 seconds. Put an english muffin in the toaster, and when it's done, just pop the egg out of the bowl and onto the muffin (it's the perfect size), top with a slice of ultra-thin (45 calorie) cheddar cheese, and go! The recipe also called for some sort of meat, but I'm a vegetarian. All in all, a 215 calorie breakfast!
I'm also a protein person. Peanut butter or the Mini Babybel light cheeses are good. I did have to laugh about fixing waffles on a Sunday morning. Sorry, I'm out the door by 7:30 heading for church and two services.
I wish this would say something like "now it's time to gear up for another long day" instead of talking about taking kids to school and the stereotypical suburban type life. Not everyone's lifestyle is the same. Otherwise, nice article.
Protein shakes are a great way to combine protein plus fruit and any healthy additions, like ground flax seed or hemp seed. These are super foods and a great supplement. I use Vega shake mix (it's vegan and very healthy- contains a ton of greens and omega -3's).. Then combine any mix of fruits, and even add some baby spinach or lettuce and blend away! One of my favorites is avocado, banana, coconut milk, some ground hemp seed, ice, and a little stevia if needed. It really is delicious! I make smoothies and shakes every day and know that I am getting a good dose of fruits and veggies!

I love protein shakes for the morning. I also combine egg beaters, spinach and green peppers, poor them in cupcake liners and then cook them for 15 minutes. Each cupcake size is 1/2 serving..I wrap these in foil, and freeze them. That way I can grab them on the go, and then microwave them warm when I get to work.

Actually, the original plain Cheerios only have one gram of sugar making it an excellent choice for cereals.
handy tips! i agree with most of them but one, Cheerios are full of sugar!!!! it is unwise to start a day with sugar high followed by crash that leads to further cravings.

I am a bit picky when it comes to breakfast. I do not like oatmeal or yogurt and cannot eat sweets for breakfast, including fruit. I have been eating peanut butter but the fat in the peanut butter is becoming a problem. Any suggestions are appreciated.
I'm new to SparkPeople and was looking for some quick breakfast recipes. I found many good suggestions and some recipes that I'll try. I am finding that I stay satisfied til lunch if I eat a substantial breakfast. I am learning more recipes with low fat Greek yogurt which is higher in protein.
One of my favorite breakfasts is my Yummy breakfast pudding-I posted the recipe. I make 4 servings at a time and I prefer it cold.
I make up my own "instant" oatmeal packets in ziploc bags. I use 1/3 cup quick oats, 1/4 cup nonfat dry milk, a teaspoon of unpacked brown sugar, and a dash of cinnamon. In the morning, I can eat as is by just adding 2/3 cup of water and microwaving. Or I can throw in whatever fruits and/or nuts I feel like. The other day I premade packets with raisins and walnuts- SUPER easy to fix in the morning, hearty, delicious, and a lot less weird ingredients than other "instant" oatmeals.
I love lots of protein early in the day, it keeps me feeling full and energized. I don't understand how people get by on a bowl of cereal for breakfast and a green salad for lunch and then only have any protein at dinner. My favourite quickie breakfast ... 1 cup of 1% cottage cheese with fruit ie: a banana and/or peaches and/or plums, and/or kiwis. I also add a couple of tablespoons of homemade low sugar apple sauce and sprinkle of hemp hearts Yum. On weekends it's an omelet stuffed with stir fried veggies and a sprinkle of shredded cheese, add half a whole wheat english muffin and some yogurt and it's done.
