  • You tell people to cut out soda & replace it with 100% juice, then go on to say in the next point to cut out the sugar??? What is juice, if not nearly naturally sugary water? Talk about conflicting advice!
Fruit yes, juice no! Lets not drink our calories! Food is so much more satisfying. - 2/2/2010 12:04:48 PM
  • The water section is something we all need to remember.
Right after reading, I ran and got a big glass. thanks for the reminder - 2/2/2010 11:41:39 AM

  • I'm a new member of this site, and loved the article. I have two young kids and don't have a lot of time to dedicate to working out, but I really wanted to get rid of the 15 pds that I could not get off from the pregnancies to save my life. I was referred to a holistic nutritionist by a good friend of mine who always looks amazing, and she has taught me some amazing quick lifesyle changes that have been giving me great results. One major problem I was having is that I kept forgetting to take my vitamins, or the way my brain is these days I'd forget where I stuck them. I f anyone can relate to this problem here is a link to a short clip that helped me with this, it's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtgWpaYyKAk and Rose is the one who has helped me get rid of 12 pounds so far and I feel so much more alive and actually have energy to keep up with my little ones!
Hope this helps someone else as much as itís helped me! - 9/10/2008 4:50:58 PM
  • I feel better when I drink water. I like to buy fresh fruits and veggies when available. I will take into consideration buying frozen fruits now because the fresh produce is almost over.
Thanks again SparkPeople for your support,

  • There are these awesome frozen steamer combos you can find at your local grocery store! They are usually lightly seasoned, but there are varieties without flavor or salt added! A couple of brands that do this are Green Giant and PictSweet.

Another great thing to do--if your office will allow you to, there is a portable stair climber type machine-- put it under your desk, and three or four times a day just get up and take a ten minute"walk" up a flight of stairs. Great little calorie burners!

Most colleges also have groups you can join (looks great on a resume as a "networking and team building" activity that you committed to). My college has a Tai Chi, Soccer, and Football Team---and I go to an art school! - 6/27/2008 6:21:40 PM

When I was teaching Health and nutrition, I rerferred to water as the forgotten nutrient! Our bodies cannot survive without water!!!!!

Lack of hydration can lead to many serious health problems. We can go longer without food then we can without water so keep that water bottle next to you all the time!!!! - 4/28/2008 11:50:39 PM
  • Regarding water - Everyone is different. I drink anwhere from 10 - 15 glasses of water a day. I also run a little hot - all the time. I also walk a mile every day and work out for over 20 minutes almost every day.

However, I have seen lots of articles and features on the whole 5-6 glasses/day theory and I think it's just backlash. MOST people probably don't need more than 5 a day because their sedentary, non-physically demanding lives don't call for much more than that. Plus, a "cup/glass" of water, although in this sense means 8 oz, is often seen as a glass of water, like the kind you have in your cupboard. MOST people have 16 oz cups, so 5 glasses a day would end up being more than the 64oz recommended. Heh. Not like that's going to hurt anyone.

I liked the tips in this article. - 4/28/2008 8:34:11 PM
