Thanks, Mike, for this article. I'm going to save it and look at it often, especially considering this is like round 4 on SP; just started back today and your article helped me see my goals clearer. I DO tend to be all or nothing and I know that is wrong. SP helps track the goals and the progress so I think I'll stay around this time.

As a typical Sagittarius, I tend to leave things until I have to do them, as such I am now almost forced into this, the only way I can work to be honest, though this article helps to see how setting little goals and deadlines does help
Don't quite understand the importance of getting up before the alarm, that's why you have an alarm.. Besides that is the best part of the day, waiting for the alarm to go off, and 2 nine minute snoozes.... the only 18-20 minutes out of the day, that you have absolute control of...after that most of the day is at someone elses discretion...
good article. I approach my goal setting with the seasons. I know things will happen along the way, so I allow for a buffer. I estimate how much I normally lose in a 3 month period, and allow myself a range within 75% to 90% of that. I always keep in mind that the goal is JUST something to focus on in order to help me keep balance on my journey. The real achievement is learning to live better and better while get to where I want to be.
What a great article and very timely for me. I was just taking a short walk, thinking about what I am going to do for the month of February. I haven't quite gotten my plan together in my head, but it is going on paper and the computer!

I love how you let us know about 17% of people taking six or more tries to accomplish their goals! Lets me know that just because I fail once or twice, I'm not a failure and that I should keep on trying. Thanks for the inspiration!
I do agree with the "buddy issue" but I think you have to pick the buddy very wisely. Even with the best of intentions, friends and family members often sabotage efforts made to lose weight. Other than conversing with others on the Sparkpeople site, I've kept quiet about this new nutrition lifestyle change I've made.
