A DIY Fitness Assessment

  • Add me to the list of people who would like to see the chart for women doing standard pushups. I would rather do a few standard pushups than several modified, but that's just me.
  • Great article, however, where is a chart for women's standard pushups? Would definitely like to see one.
  • I would also like to see a chart for women for standard pushups. Those are the ones I track and those are the ones I want to work on.
  • I would like to know what the UN-modified levels would be for women. My work-out buddy and I have long since graduated from modified pushups, and it would be nice to have number to work towards...
  • I had to do pushups in tae kwon do, andI sucked at them. Then a trainer gave me a great tip to build up strength: If you can't do pushups, a good way to practice is by doing pushups with your hands on one of your lower steps on a set of stairs. It's a whole lot easier than when you're straight on the ground. Maybe try the third or fourth step if you're really having a problem and then move down one step closer to the ground as you get stronger. They're definitely hard for women to do, but once you build up strength, they're manageable. I think using a step is much better than doing them on the ground with really lousy form.
  • ya im 32 so i have afew years on u but i cant do one push up either
  • I am 25 years old and I can barley do 1 push up. This is vey frustrating. However, I am not going to give up.
  • Due to a new job, I haven't worked out in 3 months. Prior to that I was doing 3 sets of 12 full pushups. So I wasn't too optimistic about my conditioning after 3 months off. I managed 34.5 modified pushups in 1 minute! I'm a 48 yo woman. Yea me!
  • I did 30 at 9:30 at night with a tired body. I'm 53 so I guess thats not too bad. I just signed up on SPARK.
  • To my surprise, I was able to do 30 pushups, and at 55, that's excellent. Wonder if I can repeat tomorrow? Will be challenging myself to build upper body since I never work on these muscles.

  • I used to regularly get 55+ pushups in 2 minutes in the Army, and beat nearly all the boys! But I'm not offended by this test, in that it's not a workout, but a test of fitness that women can measure. I'd recommend practicing with real pushups, and then when it's time to test, enjoy the results with the female chart! That's what I'm going to do. Honestly, we have our weight distributed down aWAY from our shoulders, so we really are lifting "more" than the guys, like the way a see saw is affected by you moving out and away from the fulcrum. Don't be offended--just go for it, measure yourself, and take pride in being a women with your beautiful hips. And max the female test if you're good at standard pushups. Because again, you probably really ARE doing more work proportionally compared to a male.
  • PUSH up? At my age....I don't think so. Best I can do is a wall push up. For some reason my upper arms bother me alot when I do certain exercises. Had to have them take the Pec dec off my circuit at Curves, it was just bothering me too much. I find work out in Water Aerobics can aggravate it too. More in the bicep. Don't think push ups would be a good idea at this point.
  • I did 26 but struggled w/ the last four !! I am 49 so I guess I am in average range until next yr. when I turn 50!
  • Why are there no average ratings for women doing real push ups?? If I'm going to try to start doing push ups I don't want to do half push ups because it's assumed that's all women are capable of, I want to do the real thing. I'm a women and while I probably would count as "very poor" in the mens category I'd still rather be improving my terrible score at actual push ups than my pretty good score at fake ones.
