12 Tips to Drink 8 Cups a Day

Water Tactics that Help You Get in Your 8

  • Drinking water while driving can be tricky. It doesn't work for me. - 11/22/2015 2:50:08 PM
  • I find if I get 1/2 of my water quota in before lunch, I'm good for the day. I drink water with every meal and I enjoy a sparkling water or herbal tea in the evenings. - 11/22/2015 9:39:56 AM
I struggle to get in 8 glasses of water a day, but, have increased the number of glasses I do drink. I think I will try the warm water drink with herbal teas. I understand that it is a great relaxer before bed. - 10/9/2015 1:48:50 PM

  • Found, when possible, exercising near bodies of water always makes me drink more...running by the ocean, walking along the lake or river shore, etc. - 7/18/2015 2:32:13 AM
  • THANKS!!! Just the article I needed! - 6/25/2015 10:32:48 PM
  • Please don't leave bottled water in your hot car and then drink it. BPA levels in your plastic bottle are harmful when your car is over 120 F. - 6/25/2015 10:27:46 AM
  • I place 2 or 3 chunks each of pineapple and strawberries in 3 cup container filled with filtered water; let it steep for 18-24 hours. Pour into water bottle along with a couple of the pieces of fruit & drink up! This is a great combination of fruits & makes the water taste so-o-o good! This is my substitute for plain, old boring water. - 6/25/2015 9:53:36 AM
Not gonna lie -- I struggle with my water intake at home. At work, I'm much more successful. We have great filtered water and tons of ice, so I just force myself to drink water all morning. That way I know I have my half-my-body-weight in by 2 at the latest. - 6/25/2015 9:49:09 AM
My dietitian says, it does not HAVE to be water, any and every liquid you take in counts, and NO magic about 8 glasses!! Some people will develope kidney issues trying to force that much down!! It's an old fashioned rule. Please refrain from pounding it in stone. I hate water, I drink coffee day and night, sips, not cup after cup. It's still OK! - 6/25/2015 5:26:20 AM
  • The "eight glasses" recommendation was based on a 1942 guideline for soldiers. I try to drink at least 5 glasses, knowing that my foods have water in them as well.

I always try to drink 8 oz in the morning with my morning pills and to wake up and sip on 8 oz at night while in bed playing phone games/watching TV. (I have to keep a little bit of water on my nightstand as my blood pressure pills make me cough a little bit.) I have my own 12 oz plastic glass at work and a marked 24 oz water bottle that I fill in the morning (1 full water bottle + 1 glass + ice cubes (4 oz when melted, which ALWAYS happens) = 40 oz. That's 56 oz without counting lunch and dinner. If something is caffeine/calorie free, I'll allow myself up to 24 oz of that per day, but mostly pure water. Fortunately I'm not tied to a desk so I'm able to go potty whenever the need strikes. We like to to go to the casino and I'll drink soda while there, but I'll alternate a cup of water with every cup of soda (and make sure I count the calories!). - 4/24/2015 10:13:56 AM
  • Add mint, cucumber, or lemon... or all three to your water! Its good for you! :) - 1/26/2015 1:54:08 PM
I like drinking water, especially heated water. Sometimes I add honey to it, sometimes I add cinnamon or there are times when I add both. Water added to food would also count then such as using a cup of water to make oatmeal. - 1/20/2015 9:45:46 AM
  • I have trouble drinking water as I should. To make it a little easier, I use a reward system. I fill at least a 32oz container with water and when I finish it, since I am a Diet Mountain Dew lover, I reward myself with a glass or 12oz can of Diet Mountain Dew. I also use Mio or other similar liquid drink mixes to make the water more tolerable. Not the best strategy, I know with the chemicals, but ideally I am working on putting less of the drink mixes each time. - 1/2/2015 10:45:14 AM
