Congrats Countrymom!!! What a huge loss that's great. Keep it up

DARCY, I am amazed at your progress. It is unbelievable that you are 4 pounds away from losing 100 pounds. I'll bet the excitment to get there is killing you. I am 4 pounds from my goal and then got sick. All's I can think is 4444. Do you have plans to reward yourself for your feat?

KAREN, I weight train 3 days a week. I love it. I actually use the Turbo Sculpt video with 5lb. weights. My body has definitely changed. I actually look thinner than what I weigh and have lost inches but no weight at times. I think it is beneficial. Like MJ said muscle weighs more but it also burns more calories. The more muscle you have the quicker the calories burn. My long term goal is to look like Hillary Swank. I would really like to have a body like Halle Berry but that would take millions in plastic surgery. I think Hillary Swank's body looks nicely toned.

SWALKERE, That's funny that your husband is now inquisitive, mine is as well. He had be order the video that was in the USA Weekend section called "Budukon" yesterday. He also tries to eat healthier lately. He says he needs to look as good as me which of course makes me feel good. He thinks it's amazing that I could lose 44 lbs. since August of 06. Now he's jumping on the wagon too. I think it's good because maybe I can get a workout buddy out of this.

Thanks to everyone for the words of encouragement. You guys are the BEST!

Way to go to everyone who is doing the 30 min/day mini challenge. I put in 6-7 hours per week, but I don't exercise every day...gotta have my rest day! :)

There's so much inspiration and encouragement on this board! Suffice to say the people I am connecting with on Sparks are a big part of my success. Thanks Michele for getting us together here. I have your Prevention story in the front of my magazine rack as a reminder that ultimate success is attainable. I'm glad to be getting to know all of you. Thank you for being you!

MEJAI1- Way to keep going even when the others were done to hit your 30 min goal! That's DEDICATION!!!

I do "strength" 3 days/week...seems to be pretty easy to fit in during my evening TV shows...I do 6-7,and my "weights" are just 2#'s, but I've still noticed a difference especially in my arms. My hubby, too, is being encouraged to get more active--he's started doing a few, too, as we watch together.

Here's for today:
35 minute walk...

Hi all!

HJ - Welcome aboard. Great timing for you in this challenge!

DARCY - It really is wonderful when others notice it. I keep saying it, but you continue to inspire!

KAREN - Yes, weights help... but they might make the number on the scale move more slowly. Muscle weighs more than fat, but it's more compact, so we look and feel better when we have more muscle. Also, the more muscle you have, the more fat you BURN. That's why men generally keep weight off easier than women -- because they naturally have more muscle. And to add to that... no I don't consistently strength train. But it is VERY beneficial.

SHAWNA - YAY for your dh jumping in with his curiosity. It will be so great for him to join you on this journey.

As for me.... I'm at 1527 calories... really trying not to eat ANYTHING else today. Right at the top of the range... gotta drink some water.... and go to sleep RIGHT after American Idol (LOL!).

Ok... later all!

Welcome to the challenge, HJ!

Great progress, Peanut! (LOVE it!!!) I bet by tax day, you'll be at your century mark - that is AWESOME!

Karen - they say that doing weights actually helps your metabolism because you burn at a higher rate for lonnnnnger than just plain 'ol cardio - cardio makes you burn more immediately after exercise; however, they say weights will help you burn more for several hours after your exercise is complete. I, too, am really tired with my lack of movement. Don't get me wrong: I'm really glad that 'movement' is not UP - but it's just stagnant. THOUGH, I'm not doing much in the exercise arena - with the chest thing going on and all...but I've been doing my march in place thing while I get ready for work, get off the bus 2 blocks before I really have to just so I can walk... But your question has inspired me: I'm going to do some arm/chest/shoulder exercises with my 10 lb. weights tomorrow before I head off to work.

You guys will be proud: I've been really watching what I eat and have managed to lose the 15.5 pounds since October of last year and my husband, of course, has witnessed it all along. FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is inquiring 'how many calories is this?' and 'how much of this can I eat?' and JUST TONIGHT, he allowed me to mess with my diet goals to see what his calorie range should be!!!!! I am SOOOO happy that he's becoming interested in getting healthier. He's not really big, as you can see on my SparkPage. But he does need to lose weight for his feet. He has miserable foot problems and when he was around 215 (he is currently 240), his foot problems disappeared. When he was working out all the time, he 'slimmed' down to 195 so I really don't think it's feasible for him to ever get 'down' to as low as some of the BMI calculators say he should be to be 'healthy' but I am thrilled that he is now thinking toward treating his body (and especially his feet) better!!!

Y'all have a great night!

Welcom HJ, and good luck to you!

Darcy, what a great story. I love it! Yes, it is so nice when people notice our hard work!

Michele, proud o' you!

I'm getting frustrated with my lack of progress. I think I'm going to try doing some weight lifting. Anyone here do weights? They say it's important to do if you want to lose... maybe that's my problem.

Hi I've just started back with sparkpeople this month after an illness and am eager to get back on track. I have about 20 more lbs to remove (I don't lose anymore cause I don't want to refind any of it) before my daughters college graduation on Mothers day - so I'm hoping to be able to join this challenge.

Darcy that was great of your co-worker to notice and actually say something! way to go girl!! Rock it out and use that high point to keep you on track!

Something kinda cool happened at work today and I've just got to tell some people who can appreciate it.

Someone I work with came in my office today to discuss a project we're working on. Right in the middle of our discussion she stopped and said, "Darcy, you are really becoming a little peanut! You're really shrinking!" It was really kinda funny because this person is not one to say such things. I had to laugh, too....a 290 pound peanut! Ha! But it did make me feel good. And it's good to have all of you to tell...people who really understand how much those little comments can mean.

Morning all!

KAREN - you can do it! We can do it!

Yesterday, I stayed in range and got 32 minutes on the elliptical. I DID walk on Sunday, so that's two for two this week! Woo hoo!

Just a quick check in. 10 pounds by Mother's Day! Woo hoo!

----

ok, I figured I'd just add in more here rather than posting again... just came back from a 30 minute walk with my coworkers. The walk was actually about 5 minutes short, so while they went back in the building I continued on and did a quick walk around the building so that I got my full 30 in! I'm feeling good. Staying in range, but I was STARVING. Just ate an apple and I'm really looking forward to a healthy, satisfying dinner.

I did 50 min today on the treadmill. I really wanted to do more, but just couldn't go another minute. And now to stay within that calorie range...

ok... 30 minutes per day. I'm in. Starting today. Did I work out yesterday? I don't remember. YIKES.

I stayed even at 154.5, but I think my scale is broken. I knew that it was low, but I weighed myself at work (after eating and drinking) and I was SIX pounds heavier. I don't even want to type the number... But I'm going to start weighing myself at work on Wednesdays so that I can note my progress there...

Along with my 30 mins per day, I'm really, really planning on staying in range this week... that means using the food tracker...

Here's my weigh-in:

3/19 - 153.5
3/26 - 154.5
4/2 - 154.5
4/9

Congrats on all the losses!

If you're holding your own that's good too! Keep at it, maybe change things up a bit.

I'm in the 30 m. a day challenge this week. That's my goal anyway. I intended to do 45 m. yesterday but started out too hard and my legs were jelly. Which is fine...I still got 35 m. in.

Today 45m is planned again. I'll see what happens...

Hi everyone I'm up for the cardio challenge.

My weigh in for the week up 2lbs and I dont know why I really have been watching what I eat and driking 6-8 waters a day I even joined a gym and even went 4 times last week what gives any idea. I'm clueless. Have a great day.

Good Monday to all. Welcome to the newbies like me.

Bluefish you might want to try adding an extra 5 minutes to cardio and add an extra weight training exercise to the days you do those.

then try to add extra time slowly to your cardio over the next three weeks or so. you can add two minutes at a time to the cardio per day. It won't be easy but increasing in small increments will help.

You can add to intensity and not add time.

Just a thought. I know how it feels to bounce or to get started and have something fight to knock you back down.

Hey BLUEFISH, that has to be really frustrating with your med changes and all. Let out a few screams, hang in there, and just keep doing what you do, and I'm sure your body will adjust.

SWALKERE, I had a rough weekend too. Out with DD getting her set up with warm weather clothes and ended up eating in the mall food court.. more than once. I'm dragging today, but I'm going to try to get an hour of cardio in. Ugh. Let's just keep on plugging at it... we'll get there! Anyway, no change is better than going in the wrong direction, right?

Julie, I totally agree with you on the food tracker. It's a big eye opener. I can't live without it.

OK MOPSMOM, here we go.... 30 min minimum, right? Let's log it when we're done.

Any other takers for the cardio mini challenge? 30 min a day (minimum)for the next week. What do you say, ladies? You can do more, of course! Let's do it!

First, welcome to all the newcomers! And good luck!

Second, CONGRATS to the losers!! You guys are doing great. (Karen, I'm especially envious of you! You and I have been neck-and-neck so much. With you moving away, I'm really getting jealous.) My wheels fell off yesterday and I ate like crap - went over calories +200 and fat +20. Now I've got to work all week to rectify that!

I've become a bit out of control these past few weekends - not really eating well. This coming weekend, I'm going to attempt to curtail that. If I look at my 3-day average for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, it's not out of control, just at the high end of the spectrum on what I'm allowed (1544 average on calories and 50 average on fat). But it cannot be good for our bodies to do really well for half the time and borderline bad for the other half...

GOOD LUCK TO ME!
