| Finding time for me is still challenging, but it's a tad better. At least I can squeeze in more walks lately. The scale is going down in very slow increments. I have 10 to lose to make my first goal (move from FAT to NORMAL).

Day, The wilderness parts of Alaska were unbelievable!!! As far as Anchorage goes it would be ok if I didn't make it back there - it is really an unremarkable city. The knee is doing pretty good!!! It had been feeling great so I stopped taking the anti-inflamatory. After a couple of days the knee began to bug me after exercising, guess my recovery was not as complete as I had thought. I am back on the med.s and wondering if it is worth a trip back to the Dr. - the initial injury was mid-June, I would have thought my mid-Sept. I'd have been back to my old self. At any rate I have been icing after exercise and working on the weights. I've found that doing 3 to 6 set of weights followed by 3 to 5 mins of intense cardio (either on the elliptical or treadmill)with 3 weight/cardio intervals per workout is getting the scale moving a bit. What a great motivator to get into the gym on a regular basis. Hope to get in a short run tomorrow. I'll keep you posted. Hope your monsters are slayed soon. Congrats on the weight loss, it feels so great when it works!!!!

HI Crabs...how was your trip to Alaska? I'd love to go there. I have been dealing with slum lords on behalf of my son in 2 diff. states. Instead of exercising, I find myself slaying dragons. Sigh...they keep growing new heads just as I think the monster is finished. Ah...but today is a new day. Despite my lack of exercise and lack of writing in calories, I am still losing (albeit very slowly). I think this is a very good sign. Went to a party last night...I ate so much--but only the good stuff. Even though I had a lot of food and probably 10 oz of wine in my tummy when I crawled in bed, I was at my low this morning when I weighed. Usually if I have food in my stomach late at night, it is a certain up-swing on the scale the next day. So....I am very encouraged. I am missing the running and walking and can't wait for things to be really settled. HOw's the knee? Take it easy and keep icing. Keep doing the SLR--more reps, slower, sustained speed. Beef up those quads and hams, and your hip abductors, too! STRETCH.... I'm glad you are back. Day

| So happy to see that, once again, there are some slight signs of life on the running thread. I got in my first run in quite a while today. I ran for about 27 mins. and I can't really say it was much fun. I don't guess I should be expecting any more than that since I have run in about two weeks. Hopefully I can get in another run on Sun. Have a great weekend!!!!

| Wow--did everyone follow me off the path? What happened? How is it that kids can so interfere with one's plans to exercise? Got in a good walk yesterday and plan to do the same today. I guess I better do at least a 15 min. run as well so someone can keep this thread alive.

| I haven't done a ton of running this week, but it seems that I have walked a million miles around Anchorage. I got in three miles on the Coastal Trail this a.m. My flight leaves Alaska this evening, I am looking forward to getting home and back to a more normal workout/running schedule.

| Ain't technology grand!!! Here I sit in the Detroit airport surfing the web and not being bored to tears waiting for my next flight. I bought a wi-fi (wireless internet access)card for my laptop before leaving. I think it was a great purchase, this is way better than twittling my thumbs. Not getting in any running today, but plenty of walking. Some how my gate is always at the far end of the terminal!!! That ok, at least I feel like I'm getting some exercise. Seattle is next then Achorage, it going to be a long, long day!!! Hope everyone has a great week.

Glad you're feeling okay, Crabs. I'll be in Seattle on the 19/20, taking my first baby to school again. Have to drive 5 hours south to Ashland on Sunday to collect him from his shagrila. A lot of driving and still missing structure to my life, but it's not far off. I have been walking more regularly this week and really hope to get back to the same level once everyone is in school, doing their stuff and my co-worker is back. I have been putting in many more hours at work than normal, and it shows. I had fun today--tried on clothes--I am DEFINITELY an 8--absolutely NOT a 7! but that's okay. It is really fun not buying stuff that fits, simply because it doesn't look fabulous! What a concept. In the past, if it fit, I bought it (unless it was horrible). Will get in 2nd run tomorrow, come hell or high-water! Day

| Wooohoooo, this thread still has some life left in it. I was beginning to get worried!!!! Day, glad to see you are back to pounding the pavement. I got in 25 mins on the trail Tues a.m., it was tough but since I'm just getting back into it I'm not too disappointed. I ran about 2 miles which make me a bit more speedy than I was pre-injury - but I'm still pretty darn slow!!! I'm planning to run again tomorrow a.m. if I can get close to 3 miles I may still try to run the 5k in Anchorage on the 14th. It'd have to be a pretty flat course for me to be able to do it - we will just have to see.

I think my goal for the week should be to run at least 2 times. Man it's been hard to get on task. Okay-jog 23--wanted to, but felt reluctant because I knew I'd have to go back to work sweaty--I did anyway, and it was a good choice.

| No running to report, but am very happy to say that I finished up regular play in the racquetball league undefeated. The play-offs will be next Wed. should be interesting. I have a weight/cardio interval workout on the schedule for tomorrow, I plan to finish that up with a 15 min run on the treadmill.

Hey--we're all back at the same time! It has been VERY hectic. I hadn't run consistently for at least 3 weeks. When I ran yesterday, I was hoping to squeeze in 15 min. It was so invigorating I went the farthest I had ever gone. I got engrossed in a song on headphones and took a wrong turn and ended up extending my run even further. I wanted to walk, but I kept on. I was so surprised. That was motivating. I also bought a treadmill at a yard sale. I like it! It will be perfect when the weather turns icky. I am glad everyone else is still here. It seems we have all had issues in Aug. that have kept us from really pushing. Porgy, glad you are back and your back is doing better. Ditto the knee, Crabs. Day

Wooohooo, I got in a 22 min. run around the neighborhood this a.m. and it felt great. I felt like I could run farther but used better judgement and stopped when I had planned to. I am so relieved that I didn't have to go back to the very beginning with running short intervals. Hope everyone had a great weekend and I am happy to be back in the running shoes!!!!

Keep up the good work ThinCPL.
I understand totally about this time of year. I don't have kids, but, I have always worked with people who do. I figured it was something like that. Just remember that little bit of exercise will help keep the stress at bay.

| Lori glad you back and feeling better. The thread has been pretty quiet, I know I am up to my eyeballs with stuff getting the kids in school - I'm guessing many others are too. The only running I did today was around the park with my daughter. I have only work three to four days a week since the kids were born so we could get some extra time together. This is the last Friday before she goes to pre-K at the public school. We made it a great day and the running in the park didn't bug my knee at all - which is great news. Perhaps I'll try a short run this weekend. Hope you all have a great weekend!!!

Hey all. I am back on my treadmill with blessings from the doc. But at a walk. Figured I would try my hand at speed walking. Less jarring to my spine and can have the same or better benefits as running (since I can probably walk faster than I run ).
I also just renewed my membership with Sparks. My weight is up a bit, since I was layed flat. But, I still maintained a 25 pound weightloss. Now, I am ready to go for another 25 or more to reach my goal.
I noticed the thread hasn't been as active as is was...and I will chock it up to vacations and getting the kids off to school.
The evil twin is back.

| My schedule has been sooooo busy lately. Yesterday I managed to fit in a weight work out and put in 10 mins. on the treadmill to finish it up. The knee felt pretty good. I think I will stick to running on the treadmill for a few more days before I head out on the roads. I want to take it nice and slow so I don't end up injured again!!!
