Hi!
So I was bad this week. I had an extremely stressful week and am glad this week is over with! I stress ate...which is not good. So I'm ready for a new week.
Teacher, will you be posting the new weekly challenge? Hope you're not snowed in anymore!

well, i haven't really thought about the challenges lately - being snowed/iced in really stinks! all there is to do is snack! Yech! i didn't gain last weigh in, i maintained, but oh well. this week is new. i've got to get out of this rut.
i need to post the weekly challenges on the fridge so that i can see them again. everytime i go to the kitchen, i need the visual reminder!
no rice in about a week, no white flour tortillas in forever, no soda, no fast food - i'm doing ok, but i really need to get those veggies in. gotta work on that one.

| Surprisingly, I have not had a hard time at all with the white flour thing...I don't think I've eaten any white bread this week or anything! We'll see how the next couple days go!

i got my veggies in yesterday, but unfortunately it was atop a supreme veggie pizza! :( 600 cals worth! i've got to do better today. my weigh in is tonight at curves, and i'm afraid that i gained at least 2 lbs. if you gain weight, you pay $2.00, so i might as well go in with my money in hand. :)

Hi everyone!
Ok, so no white flour this week. I need to go find those La Tortilla Factory tortillas! I'm gonna check Safeway. If they don't have them, I'm sure Trader Joe's will have them.
Getting in my veggies lately...that's been my tough one. But trying to eat meals that have lots of veggies. Like dinner tonight is shrimp with broccoli and carrots and a salad. So definitely getting those in.
How is everyone else doing?

Hi,
Today has been good so far. Had oatmeal and a nonfat, decaf cinnamon latte for breakfast. For lunch, had some brown rice, cauliflower, tofu and mushrooms. Never really got into tofu, but trying new things. Not too bad.
Need to exercise still. Gonna check out the list here and see what they have for hips! I want mine to shrink!

Oooh, I like this challenge so I'm gonna join in... I haven't had, nor do I intend to have any white potatoes this week! :)
I've discovered sweet potatoes and that they're just as tasty, if not tastier than white potatoes. Can't wait to see what next week's challenge is. :)

| I'd like to join too! I like the idea that at first, I only have to give it up for a week...that makes it much easier to skip a bad thing later every once in a while (or almost all the time), because I know I could make it a week without it, so I can make it a little longer! I'm glad it's almost the end of the week...I already don't really like potatoes very much so it shouldn't be too hard,(except when they're baked in slices or french fries of course!), but what I do like, I will skip!

Hi...none of us have posted...does this mean we've all fallen and we're having a hard time getting back up?
Well...let's refocus...I know I want to. I think the challenge for this week is no white bread. That's an easy one for me as I haven't had white bread in a while! Though I will tell you I had white rice yesterday! Went out for Chinese food and had prawns with greens over white rice!
Are we all ready to get back on???

i'm so mad at myself! i was doing so well, then BAM, i mixed some white rice with some brown. i could've just eaten the brown, but i chose not to. now i'm feeling it! Remember next week: no white potatoes! did anyone else have a hard time with the rice?? i know most Americans don't, but you just wait until the white flour week! ;) LOL
i need to post a sign on my fridge door to remind me of what i've given up here on the weekly challenges. maybe that will help to keep me motivated. Well, i'm off to plan my menus for the weekend. that seems to be one of the only things that keeps me on the wagon for the weekends.

Jodi - the Fruit2-O thing is a great idea! i didn't have one drink of water yesterday until 4pm! :( i just got so busy with the 2nd semester starting, that i just taught, taught, taught and didn't stop to take care of myself. i ate lunch on the run (going to an appt, so i just completely ditched the water!) i'm working on it today! i'm on glass #3 and it's 11:30 am. i'll get my veggies in with my salad at lunch and i did my exercise this morning. i'm feeling great!

Hey Everyone! The challenge is going well. I am trying to limit myself to one soda a day. I think I'm going o pick up some fruit 2O's to take in my lunch next week. If I change the routine it'll help kick the habit. Have a great day!

How is everyone today?? I have gotten my water in 3 days in a row now!! I think it's getting easier. And I've bought some crystal light to have instead of water at dinner.
Even got in all my servings of veggies today thanks to a salad I had. Tons of veggies!
No exercise for me today. I worked out the past two days and my body is a little sore today. I weigh in this Saturday and I'm hoping to see a loss!
Hope everyone is doing good!

I already eat low carb, so the "no whites" thing would be fairly easy for me. But I'm still struggling with the 5 fruits and veggies challenge, so I'm okay with adding ones I already know I will succeed at :)
Need to go shopping today for veggies and then cook some up so I have them ready to eat.

The challenges sound good to me. I'm still trying to give up the sodas though. That's a hard one for me to accomplish. I know I will survive my 2 teenagers some days just don't seem like it is possible though. LOL Now I know how my parents must have felt at times.

This sounds great!!! I've totally sucked at no fast food. That's all we've been having for the past few weeks. Got back on the no soda wagon and finally got in all my water for the day!
I had followed the Fat Smash plan and had switched to brown rice then...so I'm kinda used to it now. The only thing is being hispanic, kinda need white rice to make spanish rice. Just not the same with brown rice...but I just won't make spanish rice for a while! ;^)
And I'm here to tell you ladies that the teens years will pass! My son put us through heck a few years back. And yes we had to pay financially for it as well. Thankfully, he has woken up and grown up! He's going to be 20 this year!! Not till October, but I am still trippin' that my baby is gonna be 20!!! Dang!!! Crazy!!
But, just wanted to let you know that we survived those years and I'm sure you both will as well!!

ok, i'm a little late, but here i am now. i took a complete vacation the past 4 days from Spark and my healthy lifestyle period. i don't want to get on the scale, but i have to on Friday morning to weigh in. :)
I've tried to give up WHITES in the past. it really does make a difference, but it's hard to do it all at once, so i thought breaking it up weekly might be a good way to ease us into it. Week 1- No Fast Food Week 2- No soda (carbonated water with no sodium, ok) Week 3- add 15 min daily to normal exercise routine Week 4- eat at least 5 servings of fruits and/or veggies daily Week 5- Chew Chew Chew your food completely
what do you all think about this for the next several weeks:
WEEK 6: (12/31-1/6) NO WHITE RICE (this will be hard for me being Asian, but i need it.) WEEK 7: (1/7-1/13) NO WHITE POTATOES (nuke a sweet potato - YUMMY!) WEEK 8: (1/14-1/20)NO WHITE FLOUR (Sara Lee 100% Multigrain bread or 100% Whole Wheat is really good and low in cals - La Tortilla Factory makes a really low cal whole wheat tortilla - only 50 Cals!!!!!) jodi, jodi, jodi - maybe we should get together! i have a 13 year old boy who has put us through emotional H-E-double hockey sticks this past year. :) we survived the emotional part, but now, we're dealing with the financial downfall of it all. BRING ON THE FOOD!!! Just kidding! i'm trying and surviving. 2007 is a new year. and all i know is that it will be better than 2006! :)

Jodi...teens! They are a handful at times aren't they?! There are times I am sooo glad my kids are as old as they are. Then there are times I wish they were little again. I miss having little ones! But no way do I want another!
Good luck with today! Let's try to stay focused. I know I'm having a tough time!!

| I'm so glad the holidays are almost over. I have seen a 3 pound gain myself which brings me to a total of 12 over the last few months. I have had some emotional issues with my 15 year old daughter that have sent me on an eating roller coaster. No excuse I know but I am a stress eater all the way. The cookie plates have been extra tempting this year.

Indianajodi, I had a wonderful night! Even not going out for dinner could ruin it!
Lana, it is hard when the kids are small and to trust someone with them.Thankfully, my 3 are all grown, 22, 21 and 19. My two oldest have moved out already as well.
And I hear you about the weight gain. It is so hard to stay focused during the holidays when there are so many Goodies everywhere you turn! But, this month is almost over with and you're making a concise effort by doing a veggie day!
To top things off, it's that time of the month for me, just arrived today! Yuck! Whatever sweets are left...they might not survive the week!

your night does sound wonderful. my DH and i haven't been out together in years - literally. i have babysitter issues being a high school teacher. it's hard to completely trust others in my house, you know?
anyway, i'm glad everyone is surviving the holidays. i'm just barely holding on. i'm up another 2 lbs today! i'm trying not to cry, but that puts me at a 7 lb gain total in the past 3 weeks. i'm so bummed. i'm going to do a veggie day today. i used to do those kinds of days once a month to clean out the old body, but it also helped to drop a few. i feel like i need to clean out all of the JUNK i've been eating lately. this will be my way to start anew!

Well...I think after making them, you just can't seem to eat alot of them!
Today, only ate breakfast and dinner. (no tamales either! )We were going to go out for dinner as we went to see the musical, Jersey Boys! Loved it!!! I have never seen a musical and am at a loss of words to express this experience. I got chills, teary-eyed and just filled with awe!!
Jersey Boys is about the Four Seasons and how it became Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. I absolutely loved it!!
Anyway, we didn't go out for dinner after all. After the show, there was a huge line waiting for the elevators. I told my husband, let's take the stairs. We were parked on the 8th floor. I took every single stair!!! I was huffing and puffing when I finished, but I did it!! Came home and made spaghetti with ground turkey and mushrooms.
Ok...I'm gonna go back staying in awe for a while more!

Christina, great job at not eating more then 3 tamales and then not touching the baked goodies.... wish I could say I did as good. I was not as strong willed and the scales reflect the bad choices. Today was a new day though. The F&V's are not a problem, the FF was not a problem.....had to have that one diet soda though. I did get in 8+ cups of water befpre having the soda though. Still not good for the challenge but I'll work on it. Have a great day everyone!

Wow Christina! that's great. i can't stop after 3 tamales! i'm bummed b/c each holiday, i have friends that come over and we make korean food, then we go to another friend's house to make tamales. but this year she traveled to her sister's in california! ;( how dare she leave me without my Christmas Tamales!!!! i guess that's probably a blessing in disguise. can you imagine how much of those i would've eaten??? i can, and i don't want to think about it. have a great post holiday week! i preplanned my food journal today, and so far, so good. i just hope i can stick to it all. i forgot to purposefully chew slower for lunch, but i'm going to post it on my fridge today.
