Felipa--It looks like you did great. You had a high day, but most of your days were low--so your average is more than fine, right?? Don't be too hard on yourself!! You're doing great!!

** My total this week was just 2786.

10/29 - 1480 (0) No exercise but I'm not messing with that total. I am STUFFED!
10/30 - 1550 (635) 65 mins on elliptical

11/3 - 1624 (0)
11/4 - 1991 (1280) Strength class: 55 mins, 375 cals. Step class: 55 mins, 635 cals. Elliptical: 25 mins, 270 cals.

(That's a pretty ziggy zag!)

Weekly Average - 1945 - Goal is to be under 2000 this week. That's in my maintenance range at least!

I had to edit yesterday because I had forgotten to log the carrots and mashed potatoes and then I had a serving of ice cream :)

Today could have been so much better but I had one of my midnight snacking runs with the fig bars, a banana and a glass of milk. Without that I could have been pretty low. Oh well - I had a great workout this morning except for some bothersome foot pain in my left foot. I think it's time for new shoes.

This is an early log-in of the (hopefully) worst-case scenario for the rest of the evening. After I get the wee one in bed, we'll watch a movie and I've logged another glass of wine, a Skinny Cow, and a half a bag of popcorn so I can nosh all evening. Maybe I can skip one and correct down later. . .?? But even at this, I'm in range for the week. Not bad after a rough first day!

I've thought a lot about the whole stopping tracking thing. Right now, I know that I don't have the self-control to maintain without tracking, but I do want to get there because I really don't want to do this forever.

I think, at the very least, I'll have to be extremely vigilant about the scale and make sure I start tracking again if I ever see it creeping up. I guess that's something I'll start experimenting with after a month or two on maintenance.

If I stay sane tomorrow it'll be another week in range!! I'll up the cals a bit next week, as I don't want to keep losing and get a little batty with the low numbers like I did last year. I saw a "real" 119 this morning, so don't want to lose too much more. I know that there may not be a lot of sympathy for this "problem", but it's really hard to just sit comfortably at one number. . . it seems I'm either dropping too low or being totally careless and gaining beyond my maintenance range. . . I wonder if I'll ever be able to go back to my trackless lifestyle where I maintained at 120-122 for almost 10 years without counting or tracking a thing. . .????

Do you guys have a goal to eventually stop tracking after you've achieved your goals and are maintaining??

Wow - finally finding a few minutes to sit down and log in and post. :) Yesterday was bad for me as I totally miscalculated on what a serving "fig bars" (off brand Newtons) were. I thought it was 3 bars when in fact it had been 2. I didn't have 3 servings like I thought, I had 4.5! I also had a midnight snack of trail mix and some Halloween candy and when it was all said and done it was pretty high. Then I was so tired that I didn't want to do more than 30 minutes on the elliptical.

Today is great food wise and I can stop now as I am completely stuffed :) I didn't a chance to work out at lunch today and I think I am just going to have to give up trying to do that. It takes me away from work for too long. In 4 months I'll be able to get my own elliptical and not have to worry about this. The good thing is that I now trust my body to not need more food when I don't exercise as much and as long as I listen to my hunger and make good choices I will be just fine if I just burn 2500 calories a week :)

Becky - you commented on my 1700+ day and I looked back on my tracking and the highest I ever burned in one day is 2237.5. Now, this is probably overestimated as I didn't have my HRM yet but I had done my strength class, step aerobics, I mowed the grass and then did 4 hours of gardening. :) 1700+ is still up there but I've had a few days where it's been more than that. Love that yard work!

I was doing all right today, although I knew I was going to be cutting it close, until my husband decided to self-medicate for his own bad day by bringing home McDonald's for all of us. Once I was over my range with that, though, it was all my fault, because I just kept going. I could have stopped at 1900.

really really sore today, but not stiff! YaY! I came home from work and did 20 minutes stretching, and will probably do more of the same before bed. My hamstrings are singing, which is an improvement over last night when they were attempting to jump out of my body, LOL!

Anne, light floor exercises and upper body weights sounds like the way to go for now. Make sure you eat lots of nutrient dense foods during this time, that should help you heal faster, and get your calcium every day. I doubt very much you will gain with a 1200-1550 range.

Good news though. . . weigh in today confirmed the trend of the week and I'm back in the low part of my maintenance range--I actually even saw 119 on the scale again, but didn't log it as official since it was a dehydrated, postworkout weigh-in. But I'm motivated by the results of a couple weeks of clean living. My weekly average is back in range too. Yeah!!

Becky and Robin~ Thanks for the kind words it means a lot to have encouragement from you all. I have been trying to run through the pain and finally just couldn't do it anymore and went in only to find that by trying to run through it I ended up making it worse. I guess this time I will give my bones the rest they need. Becky, he did say I could do no weigh baring cardio, but I have no access to it. I am not a member of a gym or anything and only own a treadmill as far as work out equipment goes. I am going to do yoga and Pilates and try to stop eating out of depression/frustration!!!! Do you think I'll gain weight by stopping a cardio plan so abruptly?? I modified my plan but my calorie range stays the same. WHAT'S A GIRL TO DO!!!

Anne,
I had stress fractures about 10 years ago in both shins. you MUST rest them! My doctor described what would happen to the bones if I didn't rest them and let them heal...a spiral fracture and surgury to insert rods in both bones and never running again in my life!!!
I was put on crutches for 6 weeks, and as little movement as possible.
Good luck

OMG!! ANNE!! You have 2 stress fractures?? Girl!! Go chew some Viactivs and put your feet up!

I'm so sorry!! I know how frustrating it is to have a plan and want to keep moving--but having something like this happen. Yes--the Doc's plan sounds pretty typical for a stress fracture (6-8 weeks healing is the mininum in an adult for a long bone), but I'm kind of surprised he won't let you do the recumbant bike or swimming or some other kind of non-weight-bearing cardio. You might want to ask. . .

Why didn't you tell us your were dealing with this?? YOu poor thing!!

Well, it isn't exactly no working out for the whole month. I, as I have stated before, have been struggling with shin splints for a while. Well, they have been really bad as of late so I finally went to the Dr. and to my horror I have 2 fractures on one shin and 1 on the other. He said I have been running on fractured shins for weeks and that I have done some serious damage. I REALLY don't want to stop but I have to or I could have perminate damage. SO FRUSTRATED!!! WANT TO CRY!!!! I cannot do anything for a full week I guess for the healing process who knows (tomorrow will be the end of that week). Then I can start doing really easy stuff like stretching and some weight training type stuff but no cardio. Then I can walk every other day for cardio and after a full month, maybe 6 weeks!!!! I can start running again. Does this sound like a normal recovery plan for fractures??? Any advice?? Maybe I shoudl ask an expert or post in the fitness forum. Sorry for the rant and for getting off track a bit. Le sigh

Inching down on the weekly average--hope to be in my goal range after tomorrow.

LeeAnne--thanks for asking and giving me the opportunity to talk about my 5k race again! LOL! I was granted a furlough from parenting and family duties all morning Sunday--so I ran a 5k race (my first in years) and beat my goal of under 30 minutes (I ran it in 28)--then, since it was only a 28 minute workout, I went to the gym and did another 45 minutes on the ellipticle and then really pushed it hard on my free-weight circuit for 35 minutes. I love getting in a huge calorie burn on the weekend when I'm not in a rush--it helps me meet my goal for the week. But my 935 burn is paltry compared to some of Kris' days!! Heck--she burned 1700 in ONE DAY just last week. You'd have to shovel me up if I tried that!!

Anne--what do you mean no workouts for a month??

Robin--glad you like your trainer. I was going to ask how it went. The cutting down on the cardio seems a little odd to me to, but if he/she has a plan, I guess you should give it a try. Don't let the body fat % get you down. Calipers are notoriously inaccurate.

Amanda--have a good trip! Good luck with the eating out. That's always a challenge for me--but it CAN be done. I'll face the same challenge with a 2-day business trip next week. Set a good example for me, huh?
See ya'll tomorrow!
Becky
