| Oh bummer! good luck with your recovery! I hope it all works out!
| Yeah, no running for me since I twisted my ankle last week coming out of the gym. Stepped off the curb and found myself on the ground. I've been icing, though. Hoping to at least get a few runs in before the race.

| I was wondering where everyone was! It's confession time - I've been doing cardio but neglecting running. I haven't been as committed as I should be. I really need new sneakers so I've been using the elliptical so I don't do any damage to my joints from the pounding without cushion. Hopefully I'll get to the running store by next weekend.

Baggin' that's what they call it. No posts for the past five days. Bummer. Excuses... yea, I got a million of them.
One thing I can say is that my weight loss has stalled because I'm not running and I'm eatin more that the twigs I was eating.
ANGELALA...Do you want to start another one? Send me an spark email to let me know you opinions going forward. Look for my challenge...I think I'm going to call it timezone.

| short run last night - 3 miles. I'm taking the night off to do some other cardio - I don't want to get burned out.
| I ran at the gym last night; it was too humid outside to breathe - which I find rather important while running! :) 60 minutes, 6 miles...I really need to break this 10 minute mile plateau.
| I ran for 60 minutes tonight.....Good run until the end when I thought I was going to die. I have been running 4 miles or less because I've been skipping my once a week long run. Guess I'm going to have to get used to the long run! Ran six and a half miles and felt good afterwards.
That's so funny! I didn't run yesterday, either, but biked 29 miles! I got a flat right when I was cruising up to my house, thank goodness! I had no tools or a tube with me- not that I even know how to use them! ha. I'm probably going to go run tonight, but nothing spectacular. I'm extremely dehydrated.....I need to suck it up and just go. Boohoo, I don't feel like it. I always feel so good afterwards, though! Hope everyone has a good night!

No run last night. However I did bike 30 miles !!!!
Yea you read it correctly. An I even went out with Leland's teacher who is 11 years younger and 20 pounds lighter. He was doggin' me but I kept up as best I could.
Running tonight. I'll post after the run.

hahaha - I've so been there! I'm not a runner so I can wear sneakers everywhere - there's a reason I tone my legs!
last night: 50 minutes, 4.9 miles

Hahah, I know, I know...the wedding was pretty much an excuse - but hey it was my best friend's wedding, two states away, and I was her maid of honor. I'm going to give myself a break for last weekend
Angela - BandAid makes great bandages for blisters; I can't recall the specific name of them - but you might want to try them over your scabs. It cushions the damaged area very well!

Yeah, I kind of like going by minutes. I missed my run yesterday. I wore new shoes on Saturday (not running shoes) and I have big scabs on the back of my heels. What was I thinking? I'm going to try to get one in tomorrow??? Meanwhile, I am going to do a very long bike today. I really need to start riding the course so I don't get lost on race day. ONLY two weeks away! I'm getting nervous and I feel unprepared.....

I'm reading a book now...Running 101. The author is against mileage. He states when you do "time" you're not restricted to running course where you know the distances. You can for example, change your run to follow a different route, you can run anywhere even when your out of town "like at a wedding"

Welcome MZERTSON! It's always great to see a new face!
Well, I'm back from the wedding and it's time to get back on track... I'm looking for 3-4 miles tonight.
I think tracking minutes next month is a good idea. I may log both time/distance to make sure I am keeping my pace.

You've had great progress, though.....good job! how many calories were you eating a day? The cardio will definitely jump start the weight loss. What kind of exercise were you doing before this? running really seems to help my metabolism for some reason. I really have to eat a lot while I'm training or I just have no energy. Good luck on the weight loss.....and good job today!

Good day today. I rode the bike x 4 miles towing my son. Tonight I ran aprox 2 miles using the 60 seconds run 60 seconds walk routine. Felt good. Total time 25 min. I hoping by the end of our Aug challenge, I'll be ready for short runs of 2 miles followed by a bit of recovery walk then another 2 miles with a walking cool down.
I could easily see me doing 20 25 miles per week in Sept.
I still need to get back on the horse of losing weight. I was dropping 1/2 pund per day from July 13 thru Aug 13, but now I've leveled off, becasue I'm not following my super low calorie diet.

Everyone has their own goals, so we'll just keep each other updated on them! I don't run again until Sunday, a 70 minute run...yuck! I always enjoy it, though, as long as I have good music! It's just a mind over matter thing. Good luck to you! I've noticed that most of us are doing timed runs. Maybe for next month we could start logging our minutes, instead of distance. What do you guys think? Have a great run!

I'd love to join you guys. I'm a new runner - just started a few months ago - and was doing great until we moved half way across the country and I was SOOO busy I just got out of my groove. I really need this challenge to get me going again. Right now my goal is just a 30-minute run. It'll take me a couple of weeks to get back to my old pace, which isn't fast yet, but I hope to get to 60 minutes. I am not as focused on the pace as I am the length of endurence at this point, but I hope to grow up to be just like you guys :) I'll start in the morning. Can't wait!

| No run today. My wife is working second shift tonight (the pitfalls of nursing) , so I'm watching the kids. I did however take them on a bike ride. I'll be running tomorrow.

Yeah, I thought having a small group would work. Well, yeah, running is not exactly on everyone's list. It's not exactly fun unless you have really good music and there's a breeze. lol. Let's just all learn from each other.....I don't run until Sunday, but I'll keep popping in. Keenah, have fun at the wedding! Be a good girl! heehee. Have a great day!

I think you should keep this "group" what it is. Next I think you should document what goes right/wrong in the challenge from each of us.
Then in September, you should create a new "Monthly running challenge" where you can lay out the points that seem to work for most people and .....
Lastly, challenges are easy if they don't take much effort. Unfortunately, running is not one of those. Thus you'll always struggle to get vast participation. You would find much more at bt.com
Keep trying though, I'll participate as long as I'm a member of sp.

Good Morning to both of you! I just wanted to update my numbers...unfortunately I'm 5 miles behind for the week. I leave tonight for a wedding and don't believe I will have time to run before Sunday. I'm going to have some catching up to do!

Add my name to the group. What group???
Anyway, considering I'm doing this couch to 5k which is a program that doesn't always consider milage. It's more of a time thing (Run 1 min walk 1 min)
So what I'll do for Aug is complete 10 sessions. I'll keep the same format as you milage.

You guys can go ahead and add your names to the group!

Angelala- 4.4/40.6/45
I did a brick today. Biked 31 miles, then ran 4.4 miles. I feel good! I feel like I'm finally feeling better....had a head cold and was laid up for about a week. Then I wasn't really feeling well enough to exercise- I just felt exhausted. Wishingstar, there are many running Spark teams. I was just starting this challenge for this month....then when September rolls around we can continue. I thought about going into the rookie running group and inviting them to join. What do you think? I was just looking for some support, meanwhile keeping each other updated on our runs, and logging our miles. The numbers up top are for your mileage. The first one is for the miles that you ran today...the second is how many miles you have left, and the third is your goal. When you copy the post make sure that you copy into Word first, then paste to the post. This ensures that the numbers don't get messed up. That happened in a biking challenge I did last month. It has something to do with time zones or some weird thing! ANYWAYS, so that's how we'll proceed. You can always share cool running info or advice on what has helped you. So, I hope things are going well for you and that we have lots of chats about our running endeavors!! I have been to beginnertriathlete.com. I actually am following a program from that website that helped me get started. I've been doing it for 3 months and got really burned out. Since I took the 2 weeks off, I feel much more eager to get started again....AND my race is only 3 weeks away! Talk to you soon! Angela

Well I did it. I did the first session of couch to 5K. actually, I think I did the third week, because I did the run 60 sec walk 60 sec. I did it for 20 min and did a 5 min cool down walk to end the session. It felt good. So much better than last year, when I was 16 pounds heavier. I can't wait till I lose the next 15.
Well Angelala, since you started this challenge, how should we proceed. I'm a bigtime newbie to sparkpeople, so I'm at a loss of what the possibilities are....
1)Extend this post with updates on training 2)Start a group (SparkTeam???) 3)Post updates on out individual spark page.
Anyway, let me know. Hey BTW, have you seen beginnertriathlete.com --- very nice site for people who are new to Tri's.

| Wow - you guys are amazing. I wish I could compete in a Tri. My swimming is NOT good - I don't think I would be able to complete that leg of the race - I'm more of a runner. I'm glad to see we have a small group - I agree the accountability is key!
Great! Glad you joined us. I will likely not be running until Thursday to start my log. I think it's great just to have the accountability. I'm sure in no time you'll be back to it, Wishingstar. I've never been a very fast runner. When I had about 25 more pounds on me I was running a 10:30 mile. Now I'm down to a 8:30 mile. I'm more of an endurance runner. I think that extra weight on me was really holding me back......I'm jealous. I wish I could run that fast!

I'll complete the first 2 weeks of the couch to 5k as per coolrunning.com
I ran the Greenfield Tri last year. 40 pounds overweight. The swim was bad, the bike OK, and the run was also bad. The only way to describe it was "plodding". It's so weird because 10 years ago I was a gazelle, running 6:30 miles over 5K.
Now that I'm half way back, I figure I can start slooowwwwly.
