Cruisepuppy, I really feel you on that not having to debate thing! That would feel great. Maybe I'll give it a try when I have some free time (HAHAHAHA)... what's free time?

I'm with you, Mejai, I hate to shop, too! But I like my Goodwill days, just because I only have to go to the one store, and it's all there! Clothes, shoes, purses, household stuff, even clothes for my husband, and when I see something I like that fits I don't have to debate with myself about whether I can afford it or not! I leave with 'new' clothes, in a new (smaller) size, and a big smile on my face!

Hi all!
CRUISEPUPPY, No matter where you live... you were up EARLY this morning!!! Congrats on crossing the BMI line! I love the idea of having the work challenge start over every month. It's definitely a good way to keep it fresh!

My weigh in for this week was positive! Down 2.5 pounds...

Oh and I HATE shopping, so I probably won't be going to goodwill... I'll just have to shop in my closet for a while!

That is too funny about 'respect the workplace'! I have to agree, gag! lol I have a little chart that covers the whole year, month by month, so one can see what you've done over time, but as far as the rewards it is just based on the first weeks weigh-in of the month. Whoever lost the most for that month wins. So in that regard it's a clean slate and anybody can win each month. It keeps it from becoming hopeless for those who get behind.

Be prepared when you shop at Goodwill to spend some TIME. You can't go there in a hurry. I usually take a whole morning or afternoon and go through every row, piece by piece. You have to sift through alot of junk to find the jewels! You have to see something you like, and then hope it's in the right size, and then scutinize it to make sure it doesn't have any hole or stains, but, when you find them you'll be thrilled! And I usually end up walking out with about 30 things for $100! Here they always have a 'color of the day', and each item has a little colored plastic thing attached. If green is the color, you get half off on anything that has the green plastic thing attached, so I ususally find at least a couple things at 1/2 off, so $1.75! Those are really fun! Have fun and let me know how it goes!

Congratulations on your new jeans, Gwynn!!!! Wow, that's fantastic and I bet that feels SO good!! Good for you! Here's to many more new clothes for you! I don't get to go shopping yet for 4 more pounds, but maybe by Thanksgiving!

Hi All!
Gwyn, that's so great about you losing buying new jeans! YAY for you.
Cruisepuppy, what a great idea about shopping at Goodwill for "temporary" clothes (my coworker always talks about "disposable" clothes lol). About your work challenge -- do you start with a clean slate each month? That sounds like a great plan. We probably couldn't do the plastic pig thing though because we just went through these "respect in the workplace" seminars and that would probably be considered harassment -- oh, political correctness be GONE!!!

that's so true--I'll check around at work tomororw. by the way went shopping today and bought new jeans 1 size smaller!!!

You never know, Gwynnethanne....maybe you should just make a little plan and ask everyone if they are interested? You might be surprised! You could tell them about Sparkpeople and how it is helping you. The potato chip gal may be very sick of the state she's in and be grateful to you for taking the lead? All they can say is no thanks, and then you are no worse off than you are now?

I wish we had a weight loss challenge where I work--there are several of us who could really use it. But I don't think taht will happen. The person who sits next to me eats all day and the worst food as wel. I can hear her eat potato chips--and boy is she loud and is she fat!! No way is she motivated to lose. Oh well--she'll be jealous of me when I am wearing new clothes!!

Mejai, the way we handle my challenge at work is we report our weight every week and I track on a little chart I made. Whoever lost the most gets a little basket of silk flowers to put on their desk (we pass it around from week to week), and then we have a little plastic piggy bank PIG, that the person who lost the least puts on their desk for that week. At the end of the month, the losers have to take the winner out for lunch, and the winner gets to pick where! With this system, everyone has a chance every week to get the flowers, and also to win for the month and no one can really so far behind they can't catch up and so get discouraged and give up. But, over the long haul, you can still clearly see on the chart who's losing the most, so the person who is losing consistently can really see the progress they've made as it starts adding up.

Speaking of Goodwill, Gwynnethanne, that is where I buy ALL my clothes! I am including that as a part of my reward for every 6 pounds I lose. I find some really nice things there, Liz Claiborne, etc, and just like new. I get clothes, shoes and purses there for REALLY cheap, only $3.50 each, so I can afford to get 10 things for the price of ONE thing in a normal store! Plus, 6 pounds later after losing another size, I don't feel bad getting rid of the ones that have become too big! It's fun, and cheap!

that sounds wonderful!!!! well -- 5 more pounds for me and I can start getting new clothes and get rid of the ones I have now. I am planningon giving my "fat" clothes to Goodwill.

heehee... i got lucky -- well, I'll call it that... I was able to unleash the wardrobe that was waiting for me in my closet when I lost my first ten pounds... you know those clothes that you hold onto because you know you'll get back down to that weight again! I'll be glad when I blow through those though!

you are so right on that!! 5 more apounds and I can start buying new clothes. wish I had the money!!

Thanks for the encouragement. I actually am the keeper of the $$$ during the challenge, so I guess if I win, I'll keep it... It'll be $80 well earned ($10 each for 4 months). One of the other two ladies is taking it more seriously than the other, but she would have a lot to do before she could actually challenge me because I have a 13 pound head start. At the first weigh-in, they had both gained weight!!! Oh well... So thanks... I can use the money to buy myself a new (smaller) outfit at the beginning of next year!

I wouldhave to agree with Cruisepuppy. Once your coworkers see you lose they maytbe will be motivated as well!!

Mejai, Don't you dare give them their money back...you earned it! If they willingly agreed to it, and then didn't do it, but you DID, then you deserve it! I'm doing something similiar at work with the same results. But, as time goes on, one of the other girls who's been watching me lose weight is now catching the fire and wants to do it, too, so I directed her to SparkPeople and now she's lost 11 pounds. Your co-workers are watching you, even if they seem to be not taking it seriously. Your weight loss will soon have them wishing they WERE being serious, and they might get even more serious when they have to pay you the money. If they chose NOT to do what it takes to lose the weight then they chose to pay...it was their choice, so don't feel guilty. In the meantime you have set a great example for them to follow, and in the future they'll be asking HOW DID YOU DO IT??? You are showing them it can be done when they ARE ready to get serious!

it's really not good if you are the only one taking the challenge seriously!! but I am glad you are losing. where I work they should be losing--I amt he only one that is. Atleast they are honest where I am and not even trying.

Hey Gwyn! The work challenge is not all it's cracked up to be. There are only three of us participating, and only one of us is losing weight -- thankfully that's me... but I kinda feel like giving them their money back (assuming I win at the end of the year) because it doesn't feel like they're taking it seriously!

ok! I will try to do it on Tuesdays only because I'm trying not to weigh myself more than once per week (except that I have a work challenge for which we weigh ourselves every payday 15th and end of the month). So, my last weigh in was 10/18 at 190! Hopefully I'll see a change in that second digit on 10/25! Thanks!

Hi, Mejai. Good to see you here! Yep, that's all you do here is report your loss each week and try for a pound a week. It really IS a challenge to do that week after week! I haven't made it every week, but I am just about averaging that since I signed up here. I believe, like you said, that slow and steady wins the race, and that's my goal! A pound a week CONSISTENTLY! You've been doing great on the Biggest Loser, and I know you can do this, too!

Hi all,
Can I join in this challenge? What would I need to do -- just weigh in each week? My goal is to lose the weight slowly so that it'll be maintainable, so this should be right up my alley!
