Thanks Andi. I just get so frustrated with myself when I break down and have no willpower!

Speaking of which... coworker's birthday today and there's CHEESECAKE. My absolute, all time, would give up all possessions to have it, favorite food ever.

McZ - don't be too hard on yourself. You did manage to accomplish your goal for the weekend, and that is awesome! Focus this week on all the positive changes you are making, even if the week ends up not being the best. We all have them!

Shiela- Congratulations on the 4th anniversary! That's very exciting!

I definitely did not do well on my weekend challenges.... I had ZERO minutes at the gym, ZERO miles run, and LOTS of food....... But I did manage to stay away from the wedding cake and alcohol on Saturday! Unfortunately that night my fiance and I went to a comedy show in the city and ended up going out to dinner afterwards (which was like 11pm). And of course it was diner food, so not exactly healthy eating! No gym yesterday, and I'm not going tonight (meeting friends) so it's not shaping up to be a good week. Something tells me I won't be down this week when I step on the scale...

I am in the US, and it was a long weekend. Which certainly didn't help me any.... spent the day sitting in the sun having a couple of drinks.

BLUE- I hear you with being insulted about the "purging" comment your friend made. Like you can't lose weight without doing that!!!

Good luck this week everyone! I know I need it.....

Hello everybody,

I hope everyone had a safe and happy Memorial Day. My hubby and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary by going out for dinner and dancing Saturday. Sunday my sister-in-law brought one of my neices over and we went swimming for an hour. So overall it was a good weekend, I made my goals!

Good luck to everyone this week. Any ideas what we will do next weekend?

Also today is the first day of shaking breakfast up a bit from the old routine, with oatmeal at work as a slightly later-than-breakfast snack. it was tasty and satisfying.

yeah, pms munchies suck! well done on the maintenance andi, i dunno how you do it with the water retention!

happy happy, i didn:t eat again last night after dinner, no snacking, stayed happily full and slept really well. looking forward to tonights workout.

usually tuesdays is "dangerous lunch day", i:m at a school wher i have to eat with the students and eat everything they give me, it:s really rude in japanese culture to leave food behind and throw it away, but today i played my "i:m a foreigner here to teach you about foreign ways" card and didn't eat all of it. the food itself is nutritious but the portions are HUGE! 1 lunch usually totals about 700 calories. today, i managed it in 360. hopefully i didn:t offend the cook, but it feels nice not to be bloated after eating here! usually the bloated feeling lasts till about 5pm!

Hi - had the PMS munchies this weekend, so I didn't make my challenge, either! But at least this morning showed I maintained over the weekend, even with the evil water retention rearing its ugly head this morning! It's so nice to be a woman! (heehee)

You know what, though, we are all human. So we didn't do too well this weekend. We are learning from our mistakes. Metka, I think it's awesome that you are able to resist those Goodies your MIL makes! Good for you! And I'm also guilty of eating everything in sight when I'm away from home. It's ridiculous. Although now my inlaws have internet, so at least I can keep track of my food intake while I'm there. I usually use the excuse that I can't count cals to go overboard!

How was everyone else's weekend? Is it the long weekend in the US? Is that where everyone is?

how did everyone do with their weekend cardio/food challenges and weigh in? it's been quiet around here for the weekend...! :)

i failed in my food challenge so i'm making it top priority until june 10th (by then i'm hoping it'll be second nature and won't need to be focussed on so heavily) to eat within my calorie range, not over.

today was good. made a mistake early in the day inputting my breakfast to the counter which i spotted when i got home, so was able to have a larger dinner than i thought i would be able to. all good, oatmeal, bran, fruit, good healthy stuff.

am in my calorie range today and am happily full, won't be eating again :)

day off from the gym too as its closed, feels good to have a rest day.

the scale was up again this morning, i'm hoping its still water retention but its probably the leftovers of my poor eating last weekend. sigh. nevermind. onwards we go.

sunday was a good day. good workout, lots of stuff done around the apartment, sorted out my food cupboards and my tupperware crisis, and am generally at peace with my surroundings.

food intake was good too, ate healthily, made a really tasty lasagna with enough servings to last my lunchtimes the next 2 weeks, hopefully this will stop me late-night snacking while i'm preparing the food for the next day!

also found a new breakfast food to start from tuesday after the last of my apple cake thing is done with tomorrow, oatmeal packets, only 150 cals so it won't stuff me on top of my smoothie, and i can take another one to snack on, seeing as i'm getting sick of the veggies!

metkec, yep, it's the same problem i have - eating everything in sight when it's laid out in front of me. i think for me at parties it's an extra excitement thing because it's usually foods i don't buy for myself. it's really strange how in the supermarket i don't find chips and chocolates all that appealing, but if someone ELSE buys them and puts them on the table i'm a mess. maybe it's an open packet thing. i'm such a "clean plate" person.

and in my last post, my friend was accusing me of vomiting on purpose after i eat. which of course i'm not.

Hehe, water bottle theory. Luckily I don't go much to parties and so have problems with overeating. The last birthday pary I was on, we ate all afternoon. I gained 2 kg. When I see all this food, I get like crazy and eat all that I can see. This is one think that I really must change. Now I think I got it under control. My mother-in-law bakes a lot (we live together) and at fisrt, when I strted with my diet, it was really hard, but now I don't mind - and I just don't eat all those sweets. This is great accomplishment.

Official resoults of my exam will be on Friday. It doesn't matter - I have in 1 month time 2 more attempts. June will be hard month - a lot of exams and a lot of studying.

Blue, I didn't quite understand, what your friend told you (I'm not native English speaker and sometimes have problems with understanding the meaning) - he told you, you are gaining weight?

8 a.m.? Good job, girl. This weekend I'm so tired and today I slept till 11.30 a.m. (blush). (I think it's time for me to start eating more carbs.)

weekly weigh in - 65.2kg. only 300g down from last week but we blame water retention, don't we?

2.86 lbs to go before my 8lbs 5 week challenge. doesn't quite have the same ring to it as 10lbs/5 weeks, eh? :) oh well. i do what i can.

Well done wild lil, andi, metkec and mcz on the loss this week! and dinnae panic about not going to the gym mcz, no-one can attain their cardio wishes all the time, a day off will probably do you good and let your body reap the benefits from all those previous days!

foo, nice picture! i like the hair, i'm looking forward to dying mine when i get out of this supposedly respected (assistant teacher) position in 2 months time and get back to being a student!

metkec, sorry about the exam, when do you get the official results? good to see you're staying on track even with one off day, and 1 high calorie day won't do much harm. keep in there!

Last night one of my friends (who since i started losing weight has been the only person outwardly complimenting me) asked me (in all seriousness) if i was "refunding". as in am i throwing my food up on purpose. my first reaction was "hey, so i HAVE lost some fat this week no matter what the scale says" (i see him every weekend or thereabouts), but the more i think about it, the angrier i get. i thought he knew me well enough to know i'm doing this to be healthy and fit, not to be a sick waif, and that there is no way i would resort to starving myself or doing anything else like being sick on purpose just to be skinny. i dunno. maybe i'm reacting too harshly, but have any of you had any seemingly flattering comments that on second thoughts have left you questioning how well people know you?

sorry for bringing the mood down a bit.

and now to raise it again! - I love this board. i can honestly attribute most of my weight loss so far to the motivation i get from you guys. thank you!

yesterday was again, an absolute disaster in the "NO EATING AFTER DINNER!!!" strategy, it was my friends birthday so we all went out, and had jello shots, cupcakes, cake, fries.... blah blah blah. as expected when i came home and put it in the tracker i'd gone about 800 over my range, but hey, tomorrows another day, right? right.

so today i got up at 8am (on a saturday no less) and went to that gym (which i'm starting to get bored of), and burned 200 calories more on the elliptical than i usually do. and i healthily today other than the shot or 3 of whiskey i had early evening. so far i'm still in my calorie range, ate healthily and had a damned good workout and i'm feeling good about it. also went back to that shop with those jeans and tried them on again since 2 weeks ago, theyre still too tight, but last time they were all but impossible to do up, now theyre just a "bit difficult" to do up. i'm making progress even with the water retention this week. now it's just about reminding myself that what i eat DOES, IN FACT, HUGELY IMPACT MY SIZE, and not that if i "don't realise" then it "won't matter". this, i think, will help me avoid my pitfalls. and anyway, it's a 2 day challenge to stay within my calorie range and not eat after 8pm this weekend. i can do it.

about to go out again but it will be a dry, no food no drink evening. i don't need it, too happy on life. i think.

Later that evening...
Ah. that didn't work so well. i was fine even with the chips in the room, wasn't even tempted. until the bowl was re-filled. something about a full bowl. couldn't resist. a friend who's also trying to lose weight at the moment was there doing the same thing as me. eating and taking more chips all the while trying to stop. sometimes i have no willpower.

the only thing that stopped me was putting a bottle of water in my hands to play with. i'll have to remember this for next time and hope the water bottle theory can work for an entire evening.

I see you all are doing great - way to go!!!

Yesterday I had bad day. I was studying for exam whole night (I slept only 3 hours) and not passed the exam (it's not official yet, but I knew the answer only to 2 questions of 3). And in the morning didn't had appetite, but that in the afternoon I ate ice cream, white bread and chocolate - I had around 2000 calories). But I'm not worried - today I'm again on track. Today I have also started with Tae bo workouts - woohoo, I like it a lot!!! This week I lost only 0,66 lbs. I have to change my plan a bit - just to confuse my body.

Hi all!

Yesterday I was over in cals, but I did so much yard work and had a great workout, that I still burned more than I ate. I am finally down 2 lbs!

I can relate to the plateau - I've been battling the same 5 lbs for over a year. Once I get past them, it will be clear sailing to the end. We can do it!!

Starting today I am going to post my daily cals and workouts, too, to keep me accountable for the remainder of the challenge. I should have done that from the beginning, but better late than never! :)

Okay, this weekend's challenge is no eating after 8 pm - and if that's not a problem for you, then let us know what you will be doing. I'll try and get everyone's task posted before the end of the day.

Hugs to you all! I really look forward to chatting with you all each day!

Good morning ladies.

I had a pretty good week. I only went out of my calories range once and I am playing catch-up on my exercises. On Monday I did a weight check and was up to 152, this morning I checked again and am down to 148! I feel very good about that. I don't seem to be on track for the 10# by 6/10 but I am plugging away and that's what matters.

Have a healthy day.

Andi is right McZ. Sugar snap peas aren't that horrible. It could have been chocolate.
WTG on getting to the gym.
Yesterday:
Calories: Over by 250. Bad Maja
Exercise: Stretched and 20 min of cardio
Veggies/Fruit: 1
Not a great day. Today will be better. Because today is a new day.

I had a pretty good day eating wise yesterday, but not such a hot day at the gym. Did strength training, but could not bring myself to stay on the treadmill for very long. Only did 15 minutes...

But, today's another day!

Weigh in went very well- down almost 2 pounds since last week! If I stay at that rate I should make the 10 by 10 challenge! Thanks to everyone on this site- I never could have done it without everyone's encouragement!!

You can do it Blue!!

so i put my new information into the calorie generator and my target is 1200-1550 per day with 5300 of cardio per week. back to the toughs of trying to lose when you're so near your goal!

i will. i will.

thanks for all the encouragement everyone! and i'm SO looking forward to getting home in about 3 months and trying out the cottage cheese and strawberry recipe mcz, i've tried to find it but cottage cheese doesn't exist in japan! how did the weigh in go?

tonight the cake gets tried out at the b'day do (bowling - joy), and everyone gets to laugh at my once-loved-now-hilarious cooking "skills". i should be able to squeeze in a trip to the gym and do some cardio before then, so it should still be a good day even though i plan on eating some of my disaster creation!

weigh in due tomorrow (satuday) i'm not expecting a loss this week thanks to water retention, i check most mornings anyway just to see what it's doing and this week it's been refusing to budge. i HOPE it's water and not a plateau! my last plateau lasted 6 years... anway, we'll see next week!

2 weeks left to "10 lbs 5 weeks challenge" day! hope everyone is doing well.

i had an odd day ysterday. was really motivated for my gym session and burned a lot, and i wasn't hungry when i went home so i ate a light dinner, as i had been planning. then i started baking a cake for a friends birthday, and i can't resist licking the bowl, and trying bits here and there, and eating the excess butter icing... when i counted it up i'd gone 200 over my range! it's no where near as bad as it could have been but it was 400 over what i had been aiming for for the day and it left me feeling bloated and restless because of all that extra sugar so late.

to top it off the cake was a complete disaster. its supposed to be a light and fluffy sponge but its come out really dense, denser than a pancake! i'm still taking it along tonight for comedy relief! :)

McZ - don't be so hard on yourself! I'm assuming it was a small bag, which is only about 120 cals. And it was veggies! You're supposed to eat lots of them! :) You'll feel better in a bit, and in the meantime, keep focusing on the fact that you are right - they weren't chocolates. You picked the best food to go nuts with - good for you!

Ugh. I just ate a whole bag of sugar snap peas (my new favorite snack!). I was supposed to only have a few... But I guess it's better than eating a whole bag of chocolate!!!

I have zero desire to go to the gym tonight. I want to go home and nap on the couch. But, thanks to Blue's inspiring trip to the gym yesterday, I'm going to drag my butt there too.

Hi everyone,
Blue great job on the calories and motivation.
Eddie so glad you joined us.
Wild I am going to go for the challenge again.
Yesterday:
Calories - Under 1550, but not the 1400 that I want.
Exercise - Just stretched.
Veggies - 3
So I have over $5 in the reward jar already.
Today, I have actually started to work back into exercising by doing a brisk 20 min walk. Hopefully by the end of the weekend, I will be able to do a hike and some strength without worrying about my back.

9 PM bedtime isn't hard to do when you get up at 5:30 AM. Weekends aren't much different because my husband does his dialysis at night, which ties him to his machine for 10 hours. So if we are going to have any time the next day we have to go to bed early.

I agree eating a good breakfast and lunch then a small dinner is definately better than the uncontrollable hunger at night. Thanks for the info on that. I was never a breakfast eater until I started with SP. But I have always eaten right before bed. I have slowed that down, now it's only 2-3 times per week instead of every night.

Baby steps.

Not a problem, for my Starfleet Boot Camp I usually try to come up with a fun challenge a week. Last week it was "Random Acts of Kindness" week, this one is watch the calories. This challenge is doing wonders for me. Since I started it (and logging what I've eaten) I've dropped two pounds (Since Monday).

Great job on the elliptical! And I'm the same way, I try to eat my main meal at lunch for two reasons.
*I have more peace and quiet then I do at home with a two year old running around
*I have the rest of the day to work off the calories.

I tend to have a very fiber-y breakfast, as its more filling, and gives me that "full" feeling, so I don't overdo lunch/dinner.

hugs,
Trisha
