Hi Diane,
I know what you mean about emotions sapping your energy. Especially when it involves a child. There is nothing more important to us as parents, so of course it consumes us. I am learning that taking care of myself is the best thing to do for not just me, but my husband and kids too. However, it is sometimes one step forward, two steps back!

Hang in there, and remember to schedule in some time for your health and fitness. You are worth it.

Take care - Beth

Thank you so much for the vote of confidence. I have had a rough week. And have not been focusing on anything. I have a son in California and he is having a hard time which seems to wipe me out emotionally. But your message snapped me back to reality. I have a goal to meet. Thank you so much you don't even know me and have no idea how much you have helped me. I have got to stop putting myself on hold because of family interference. And thank you for the diet info. I am keeping your info and will keep in touch with you.

Hi Diane ,
congratulations to you for setting your goal to a triathlon. I have been considering that myself, but am only (almost) ready to sign up for a mini- the sprint version. I understand that is a 1/4 mile swim, 3 mile run, and 10 - 12 mile bike.

A friend of mine has done 75 triathlons over the years, he says it is the best!! I am a little scared of the swimming part, and plan to begin training in Feb. He says once you start swimming, you will be amazed by how your body changes and how good you will feel. His feeling is that this is a great way to keep working out and not get bored.

I don't know about the carbs, but according to this friend, you will be very hungry. As long as you fill up on whole grains and vegetables, not junk carbs, you will be able to eat anything. Those are his words, not mine. Actually, he said he was never hungry because he was always eating, fueling, with healthy foods.

Anyhow, good luck to you. I would love to hear how you are doing. I am a little older than you, 45 years old, but know that we both can do this.

Good morning radiantrose,
Thank you so much for the encouragement. Congratulations on your daughters graduation.
I found the triathlon on the web.It is going to be tough, but it is something that I really want to do. It is around Reeds Lake, I will swim a half mile, bike 18 miles and run 5 miles. Doesn't that sound incredible. My biggest challenge is I am an emotional eater. I have 4 generations of emotional eaters in my gene pool. I will be the one that overcomes it. I have to so I can show my daughter that it can be done. She is also an emotional eater. Who also now has a daughter, only 2 years old, but they learn from their Mothers. My daughter did as did I.
I am confident that you will be able to loose the weight by your Daughters graduation if you set your mind to it. Stay active. Try parking on the last row of parking spaces at the grocery store and the mall. Don't go through drive thrus, especially at the car wash.Go to the car washes that have the brush and sprayers. You burn calories washing the car yourself. Just a thought to get some extra exercise.
Well I better get busy. I'll keep you informed of my progress, and you do the same.

Try the fitness section and ask one of the staff they'll be able to help point you in the right direction. Under my home did you go through and list your goals and see what the site came up with? I found this to be a great tool to get started in stage 1 and progress from there.

hi MDM,

You and I have several things in common, my daughter is graduation in May and I would like to get 35-40 pounds off by then. I have always thought I would love to do a triathon, just never looked into what I need to do. Sounds like you do much better with the exercise than the food , same as me. Also I looked at your profile and you are living in the state I use to live in. Im in GA now but born and raised in MI. I cant help much with carbs, as I dont follow carbs, but I am here if you need motivation or a friendly ear.
Good luck to you, looking forward to hearing all about your journey!

I am 40 years old and overweight. My step-daughter is getting married in May and I would like to have some of my weight off by then, and also am wanting to compete in a triathlon on Sept. 11 2005. The training is going to be hard but I know I can do this. I really want to do this.I just need to know how to eat for all these goals that I am setting for myself. How many cabs do I need to consume a day to have the energy for this type of training? emoticon
