Hi Skeezits, Thanks for the reply and my apologies for the delay in reposting. I'm heading down to Tampa for the weekend of October 13 to do the 3-Day walk for the cure there. It's my aunt's homestate (one of the women for whom I'm walking) so I thought it was fitting.
I love your idea of setting states as miles-walked goals. Congratulations. You've covered some great distances. And congratulations and good wishes for your walk in early October. We can, do and will make a difference.
God Bless.

Hello Goal keeper: I too will walk for cancer the first weekend of October but only a 5 km walk. I had a team of 11 others with me last October. I am just about to start recruiting a team for this fall. I am just virtually starting to walk across the state of New Mexico; I have finished California and Arizona. The chart I have says it is 348.4 miles and I plan on making it by my anniversary Oct 21st. When is your Cancer walk?

Hey this is a great challenge. I've been training for a 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk for the Cure event. I'm walking many miles a week to prepare for the 60 miles in 3 days event and this is a great way for me to set mini-goals to keep my mind (and body) going.
How about you?

| Hello where is everyone; I have not been walking as far lately as I am busy at work this time of year. Anyone out there to inspire us on?

Welcome Eolande: You may use what ever means to travel your distance that works for you. I just finished today walking 100 miles in 18 days. I did 12.5 miles today. I will start another 100 miles tomorrow and see if I can beat my 18 days.

| way to go eclecticnancy: I checked out your jogging website. I am not at this stage interested in jogging on a regular basis. I do spirts of it to get my heart rate up or to finish my goal distance quicker. I am tracking my distances on Healthwalkers website. This is the last week of a 5 week survival competition which started at 7 x your daily average then increased by between 2.5% to 7.5% each week. This week I have to do 44 miles so I am concerting my efforts to do 7 miles each day. I have parked my car 2 blocks further from the office than I usually park it this week and darn it has rained every day, but I will go the distance for the sake of being strong and healthy.

Just walk and track your distance; I am currently doing a survivor walkathon with the other website I use for tracking my walking; it is healthwalkers.com. This is a temporary extra challenge, week 3 of 6 where you increase your average walking distance by between 2.5-7.5% each week so that this current week I am to do 42 miles within the 7 days. Tomorrow is day 7 and I will likely just make; I have walked 12161 steps today; it was cool this evening and perfect weather for speeding along. My success is I have kept on increasing my distance from 5 miles to just over 6 miles/day, kept my calories to 1500/day, done some strength training and have lost 4 pounds in the threee weeks. Feels great; getting out the summer clothes and fitting in them is the greatest.

Kwonset: way to go; I enjoy my pedometer; it motivates to give an extra 500 steps or so; we had sunny Spring-like weather today so I enjoyed a 20 minute walk from my office outside; it is great to get back outdoors at lunchtime as all winter I go over to the vacant floor of our downtown mall and walk briskkly with about 6 or so others; the motivation there is the other walkers and the music to keep you moving. Today getting outside was fantastic; hear the birds that have returned, the daffodils that are coming out this week and the fresh air. Lets go gals. April 11: 6.07 miles/107.08 to go

I bought a pedometer today, and had to take a walk to try it out. I did 1.5 miles on the dirt road behind our house, 68 to go.

Karen: yes I use a pedometer for my mileage including when I was in Arizona when I was doing more hiking up and down the hills there including Bell Rock in Sedona but very little distance into the Grand Canyon as it had rained just before we arrived and was very slippery even with our hiking boots. There is an excellent website for tracking distances too, but I am not sure if it is more accurate in urban areas than rural. It works off satellites, but I will have to get the website from my office tomorrow and let you know then. I did my last 2 miles (at 15 minute/mile pace) this evening with my Leslie Sansone DVD. 4/9/06 5.5 miles: 119 to go.

Went slow today because I woke up with a slight hangover (haven't been to happy hour in years; only had 3 drinks, but I was feeling it this morning). Rode the bicycle for 45 minutes, and walked the treadmill for 41 minutes, for a total of 14 miles.
Keep on keeping on, everybody!

Skeetiz,
You are getting in some pretty good mileage!!! I don't know if I can average over 5 miles a day, I most like to hike and 5 miles hiking for me takes a big chunk of time (I am very slow on the uphill parts).
How do you measure your miles? Does a pedometer do that? Or do you go by time? I have to guestimate when I hike, using a combination of maps and the amount of time it took me.
Would be nice to take on that challenge, I'm pondering it...

Hi Tara & Karen: Way to go you two; both of you are motivating me; I live in Ontario and darn it it is still cold here for outdoor walking. I just spent last two weeks of March in Arizona and hoped for warmer weather when I returned to Ontario to motivate me to move more; I started back with the Sparks exercises today; goal do 20 minutes basic exercises 6 days per week and walk 5.5 miles/day, with minimum 2 miles at brisk pace. Goal for April 166.66 miles (2000 per year) April 1st 6.03 miles 160.63to go April 2nd 5.11 miles 155.52 to go April 3rd 5.33 miles 150.19 to go April 4th 4.98 miles 145.21 to go April 5th 4.7 miles 140.51 to go April 6th 6.24 miles 134.27 to go April 7th 5.54 miles 128.73 to go April 8th 3.96 miles 124.77 to go and did 20 minutes strength exercises; if Spring was to truly arrive it would be easier to enjoy the walking but then who said this was supposed to be easy. At least the birds are back and some crocus and daffodils are starting to appear. Lets go gals. Anyone else up to 166 miles for April???

| 20 miles so far, need to add some more this weekend! I wish I could find the time to walk that long and then ride the bike. I am lucky to get 30-60 minutes a day in.

Connecticut is very beautiful, from what I've seen and heard, though I've only been to New London (took the ferry from Long Island) and haven't gotten to really explore it yet. That's on my future "to do" list, for places I want to travel to.
In Miami, it's too hot, and a little too dangerous to walk outside (there is no respect for pedestrians here), and having grown up in New York, where we walk everywhere, I really miss the cooler weather and where there's mountains to see, and undeveloped areas to get away from it all.
But I walked on the treadmill for 71 minutes last night, and then rode the bicycle for 42 minutes. Haven't calculated my current mileage level, but I will later on, when I'm at home. Now, gotta get back to work. Yuk!
