I quit smoking two years ago and am so happy. I actually lost weight after I quit, but then gained some weight so I guess and I can't use that as an excuse. I wish all ex-smokers continued success.

congratulations on quitting smoking and more importantly for joining SP. there's lots of support here! start small. you broke a habit - now you'll build new, good ones and reward yourself for developing them!

Congratulations on quitting smoking! I, too, quit smoking eight months ago, and I joined Sparkpeople and I have lost 30 pounds - it IS possible. I think you do make your own joy, and at the end of each day, you find things for which you are grateful, and when you focus on what is good (I know it isn't all bad), then you move forward. Try to force yourself to do that exercise... don't start big, just walk, and make it a regular routine. There are other rewards out there. And just remember, although it seemed like the drinking and smoking was your relief, it was really artificial, and your natural "high" will surpass the chemical ones by far. Keep moving and keep drinking lots of water, and practice gratefulness!!

Well first of all coagulations on not smoking! Breaking that habit is hard enough—my hubby is an ex smoker and I saw what he went through to quite, it’s not easy.

As for finding joy, I don’t know what to say about that. I do understand the eating for pleasure though. I usually gain my weight during the school year because I go to college and my and my children’s extra curricular actives keeps us pretty busy so that I tend to eat out more and eat a lot more fatty foods like chips and baked goods because they are quick and it makes me feel good after a hard day. So for me I usually welcome the summer even though it means the kids will be home all day. I usually try to plan a few outside things to do like going for a swim or taking the bikes out for a ride every week. But I know how hard it can be when you are tired and fed up with things.

Anyways, sorry for rambling and I hope you find more joy in your life (sometimes it seems we have to make our joy instead of finding it, lol) Good luck with your weight loss.
