Good Luck with the change to soda. I quit drinking soda and have been drinking Crystal Light Wild Strawberry, it's really good and a nice change from plain water with meals. I still get my water for the day and I don't have to feel guilty for drinking something that tastes good, plus zero calories.

Wow 500 cal for one drink! I should say that that alone will make a BIG difference, even if you didn't change anything else. There are lots of stories about people who just stop drinking the sodas and loose weight.

However, be prepared that you may go through caffiene withdrawl, be prepared, and at least for a while, make sure your diet soda has caffiene, then gradually taper off.

A friend of mine suggested that I drop my 500 calorie iced mocha for a 0 calorie diet soda. I'm going to give it a try for a week. Theoretically, I should drop a pound a week just from this.
