There is a yoga for kids video out from Gaiam that my daughter loves. Her favorite is the ABC yoga. We love to do it together. You should check it out.

wow! 60 minutes of exercise?!?!?!

I'm sure most of it is "free play" - opportunities to run, play and be a kid!

My 2 year old daughter, Kiana, loves to "exercise." We try to walk to our puppy up and down the alley a few times a week. It's hard to walk the puppy with DD, because they antagonize each other and the puppy will end up knocking her down and hurting her.

We also have been going to a small park that's only a few blocks from our house. We walk there and back. Kiana and I spend around an hour playing there. She just hates to leave. She mostly runs around and I chase her. I push her in the baby/toddler swings or she'll go on her belly on the bigger swings while I swing next to her. We also climb up the slide and go down together. Anything and everything we can do at the park we do, and it helps me burn all the calories I need to burn for the day.

When the weather isn't nice, I'll pop in one of my favorite workout dvd's and Kiana will try to do it with me. She'll march in place and dance around. It's so cute. Every where I have read, children under 18 need at least 60 mins of exercise a day.

My toddler loves to exercise with me also whenever I cut on a workout DVD she comes running. She and my older daughter exercise on their own by dancing, which is great. My toddler has even named a particular pair of pants her "exercise pants" LOL!

thanks for the ideas! We love to dance, walk, run and skip! I'm specifically looking for ways to teach good form with weights.

www.fitnessbeginnings.com - has a BUNCH of kid workout videos some that were hip hop dance, yoga, and others which may be fun to do at home. I don't know about for toddlers. I just have mine run around outside kicking the soccor ball, riding bike, scooter, playing tag...

My oldest DD is the same! I just let her go through the same excercises I do with no weights (just because I wasn't sure about weight training with kids) she loves it though!

My kids love to copy too. They grab by dumbells as well. They just love the Hoola Hop I bought.

Healthy habits definitely start early. There are some great articles in the Fitness Resource Center that touch on this very subject. There is one specifically that I thought would be helpful to you. It's titled 'Kids Need Exercise too'.

Have Fun!

I have a little gire (3 3/4 y.o.) who is very fit - likes to run around, dance skip and is strong.
She also likes to copy me - so when I put down my 5 lb weight - she'll pick it up and try to do some strength training exercises.

Because she's interested and I want to develop good habits early - I bought her a set of 1 lb weights. Now I'm looking for strategies and exercises to teach her (again - she's only 3 3/4). I want her to have fun - with good form.

Ideas?
