The good news is that you are aware and can make the healthy changes to your lifestyle.

SparkPeople has some great fish recipes that you may enjoy. There are good articles on this topic in the Nutrition Resource Center too. One that you may want to read is titled 'Fats that Fight Cholesterol'.

I just found out my cholesterol is too high... total is 203(too high), HDL 55 (perfect), LDL is 132 (too high). Even though I am just barely over what is okay I want to take care of it now, before it gets higher.

I plan to cut red meat to 1 or 2 tops times per week and introduce fish into my diet. I don't like fish, but I will learn to eat it.

I never met my grandma, she died at 49 from multiple heart attacks. I will do ANYTHING I have to, to help me be here for my grandchildren.

Let me tell you my story first. I found the prostolic and phytomega through a wonderful buisness. I was looking for products that not only improved my life but were safe for the enivironment my kids and my dog and my husband. I researched a lot of online products and online businesses. I came acrossed Melaleuca and read everything on it. Melaleuca is a tree in austrailia. They harvest the oil which is very medicinal. I used it before for my excema. Which I had purchased it through the local co-op health food store. I suffered a lot growing up with excema. The doctors only gave me steroids. When I used the tea tree oil over seas, it was the miracle I wanted all my child hood. I finally found relief. Anyway, a couple days later my friend called me and said guess what you won't believe this I found a company that has everything you need. I put her off for a couple of days thinking she got into Amway or something. When I called finally, I said give me the low down. I was shocked because I had ready been looking at it. I had read everything about it. I told her right there I want to be a customer sign me up. MY WHOLE family loves the products they have. My husband Mr. skeptical and naysayer is totally into it. He took the prostolic and the phytomega to the pharmasist and the doctor they both said go for it. His cholestral is totally down. He hates taking meds and will do anything to keep off them. He had one pill that made him have an allergy reaction like eddie murphy were one eye bulged then the lips then the cheeks. It looked so funny, but the whole matter was not. It was very painful and he could have gone into a seizure. Just so you know I don't sell anything. I am a consumer and I sign people up as customers and thats it. So as a consumer I highly recommend people to check it all out. Let me know what you think. I will email you the link.

I have never heard of prostolic...

what is that?

I have tried to go about this reduction with natural remedies..
I have been taking fish oil for years.. the only thing I have not tried is the vitamin c. we don't do vitamin c here unless it is in food form. My youngest daughter has a kidney disease and the kidney doctor said that taking the suppliments of vitamin C would not be good for her kidneys.. promoting the formation of stones..

Please share more infor on this other product

Have you tried any natural ways to reduce the cholestral??? Before he goes back in get him started on oats every morning. My husband is taking fish oil and c. Have you ever heard of prostolic? It is a daily supplement that is combined with tripeptides, potassium, pomegranate and passionflower. It promotes healthy blood pressure. Of course we bought it and then made sure it would not counter act with other stuff he takes. Just to mention more meds makes him work even harder. Some meds side affects are not fun. He had leg muscle pain for a long time until the doc took him off a med. The pain went away. Then a report suggested people not take the med. If you want to know more about the prostolic, just let me know.

Caeryl,

I hear ya on the medications. If my husband's levels don't decrease with changed eating habits in the next few months, he will be adding a daily medication to his routine too. I think medication is much better than the alternative! I believe that my father is on Crestor and has had great success with it (minimal side effects).

Keep us posted!

My husband had a heart attack at the age of 40 and a stent put in. He has been doing well. He has struggled with the hi blood pressure but through walking and eating oats in the mornings and phytomega and provex. Its is amazing stuff. We have changed our whole lifestyle. Additionally, his brothers and first cousins and mom. All either had heart disease or/and heart probelms. So we stay on top of all this.

yes the doctor has put me on medications..

what is scarey is that my numbers are similar to my brothers numbers... My brother had a massive heart attack at 40... so I am trying to be good..

I am starting to take Crestor.. I hate having to take the medications but with my genetics.. well, I will take my medication...

I just recently had my yearly cholesteral screening. I had it done last year about this time, right after I came back from maternaty leave.
During this past year I lost 58 pounds and 12 inches off my waist and learned to eat healthier. After all that my cholesteral went UP 56 points this year!
I am frustrated beyond belief right now. Granted, I know genetics are working against me too I'm afraid, from both parents.

Are you going to go on any medication? I've tried it before I got pregnant by it made my heart hurt when I was doing nothing but sitting still. I'm afraid I'm not going to have a choice this time though.

Best of luck to you on getting yours under control! I sincerely wish you the best.

Hi Caeryl,

My husband has high cholesterol and his is also a genetic gift . Neither one of us is the kind of person that likes to take prescriptions if we don't have too...so he has made some significant changes to his (already decent) eating habits.

We have made some changes in our pantry and refrigerator. He eats oatmeal and cheerios a lot for breakfast. He made the switch to either using egg beaters or plain egg whites too.

We are very aware of everything that we buy and if the nutrition label reads too high, then we put it back on the shelf and find something else.

Here is an article from our Nutrition Resource Center that I thought you would enjoy reading.

The Keys to Conquering Cholesterol

Be well,
Kelly
