Caandahl - He can talk very well. But if I ask him things his famous words "I don't know" If I list things for what he would like to eat, every answer is NO but if I open the door, then he will end up picking something I just mentioned.
He has been dry 3 nights in a row. So maybe things are looking up. I was just getting a bit worried when a few of the days he was drinking TONS of water and peeing all the time. Which is VERY unusual. Like last night I picked him up at 5:00 and I don't think he went till almost 8:00. A few mornings during the week he will be dry all night, NOT go in the morning and Still be dry when I drop him off at day care at 7:30 am.

But thanks for all the info. I will keep it in mind if I see other problems.

Teens w/diabetes are hard!My son was dx'd in 2nd grade and his BG #'s were perfect for years, but once you add hormones,it is awful!
He is 14.5 and it is getting better, ther worst time was between 11-13 for him.
School is also annoying as far as his diabetes, his numbers and testing.
They think that 240 is high, even if you are sick and it is only 15 min post meal....

HI, my son is 12 well 13 Saturday
and he's been diabetic for 2 years, one year on the pump. we struggle with teen issues, like why do i always have to watch him, why can't he go anywhere alone and my favorite. ooops i forgot to wash my hands before i checked. ( today tested at 490 in school in one hour was 33) it gets hard when you add in all the teen stuff but i love the pump and just relized that i put all this effort into coounting his carbs, why dont i do it for myself? as of today he and i are going to work togther. i nag about checking and he nags about how much water i haven't had!

Hi,
Thats pretty typical for kids,to be dry, then start wetting the bed again. Can he talk and tell you if anything is wrong?
Stress can cause regression in anyone!

Thanks, That is what I had read here on SP, but wasn't sure. He was just at the Dr.'s last week for his 3 year check up. And I said something to him about peeing the bed the last few weeks. He said that most kids at this age can't even control it during the day let alone at night. BUT the thing is, he used to for months in underwear and before that his pullups. He had kept his diapers dry overnight before 18 months old. BUt there are a lot of changes going on at the day care and wonder if that has an effect as well. He stayed dry the last 2 nights, and in about 5 weeks will be home with 2 of his 16 year old cousins this summer. More 1 on 1 time, and a little break from the day care. He can drink a lot, but then he can hold it forever too. I will keep watching and see.

THANKS AGAIN.

My son was very thirsty and was also urinated a lot more than usual. Coincidentally, a family that we are evry close freinds with (and neighbors) had their two year old sone diagnosed less than a year before, so we knew those were signs of Type 1 diabetes. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had a clue and Aidan might have gotten very sick before we realized what was happening.

Aidan is tested annually for celiac, and my Mom was diagnosed with it about 1.5 years ago.

My son kept throwing up,he was also dehydrated and drinking a ton of water.
If you ever think your child may have diabetes, thake them in!
A tiny finger poke is all they need to do to find out

HI,

The way that we found out about our daughter was she was constantly having to go to the restroom, her thirst was never quenched, she was beginning to wet the bed (she was almost 4 and had never done that before) and her disposition had changed drastically. I thought that she had a bladder infection so I took her to the doctor. After checking her out he said that she was prediabetic. Hope this helps.

I am just curious on how you know to have this checked at such early ages. What are the signs to watch for?

Thanks

Hi Lauren,

I was just browsing through the topics and saw your post. My daughter Katelyn has been insulin-dependent since the age of 4 and it has been a life changing experience for the whole family. She is now 13 and doing well. She is small for her age. She has been checking her own blood since the age of 5 and has been giving herself shots since the age of 7. She was on the pump for about 8 months but after a few scares of it amlfunctioning (one that put her in the hospital for 5 days) we switched her back to shots. She does want to get back on it in the future. She enjoys working out with us especially yoga and kenpo.

I would love to hear from you! We also love board games. We just started our collection before Christmas. What are your favorite games? Hope to hear from you!

I'm just wondering if there are any moms or dads of kids with Type 1 diabetes in this forum?

My son Aidan (five years old) is insulin-dependant and has been since 21 months of age.
