I liked the Lions draft. To me it sucks to say (since I'm a Packer fan) but the Lions, Bears and especially the Vikings all had good drafts. All three teams added potent offensive weapons in the first round.
I don't care about the Lions past history of drafting wideouts, they had to take Calvin Johnson at #2. This guy is a beast and will be a top three wideout for years to come. Especially in Mike Matrz's offense and especially if they get some type of stability at QB. If Johnson somehow becomes a bust, the Lions might as well withdraw from ever picking a wide receiver in the draft ever again because they're just cursed.
Picking up Drew Stanton in the second round was a good choice. He's a local product and if he gets time to work with Martz and learn from the sidelines he could be good.

What do you guys think about the Detroit Lions picks?
I think they did what they were supposed to do and that was to take the best available player, but, I think history just repeats itself, they still do not have the QB or running game to pass the ball to their top pick. I am not too heart broken since the Bear will play them twice a year and those are relatibly easy wins.

| Quinn will be ok but just as any rookie QB he will strugle at first, if he can sit for a year and watch and learn he can be good next year. But I am not sure the Browns will let him sit for long.

I'm still not sure why Cam Cameron got a head coaching job. The last time I remember him being a head coach he was coaching Indiana in the college ranks. They scored a lot of points, had an interesting offense and a very bad record. Cameron is a lot like Norv Turner. He's good in specialized situations (working with QB's/offense) and horrible at being a head coach and key decision maker.
I can't believe all the criticism Brady Quinn has been getting. Is he the next Tom Brady? No, but he's not going to be a bust either. Quinn suffered the same way Matt Leinart suffered last year. They were two high profile QB's at big time programs who decided to stay for their senior year. For that, they had everyone nitpicking at every little flaw. Brady Quinn will do just fine in the NFL and I don't see any reason why he can't be a top 10 QB in this league in due time. With that said, had Quinn come out last year, I would not have taken him before Young, Leinart or Cutler.

Rob,
Cam doesn't think. How do you run the entire 2nd half of a playoff game with the the most dominant running back in the league not part of the strategy? Cam's the guy that came up with that winning strategy. Moving him to Miami insures that the dolphins will be a bottom feeding team for a couple years until they fire him of course.

You're right in that the running will be a big factor for him especially early in his career. I don't think JL is that much better than Droughns at this stage in his career. I think the O-line play will ultimately determine his effectiveness as it does for all running backs. Case in point: Edgerrin james did nothing with the slop the Cards had as a line last year. But, I look for them to be much improved under my old Steeler coaches. I've adopted them as a rooting interest.

He'll have weapons, that's for sure. A lot of rookie QB's don't walk into a situation with a solid TE and WR already in place. I'm sure he was glad to go to a team that already drafted Joe Thomas as well. (since Frye was sacked 44 times last year)
The running game will be important for his growth in the league, I wonder how much Jamal Lewis has left in the tank - but he's a big upgrade over Droughns.

I think Quinn will be alright. Remember he played for Weis who ran an NFL style offense.
The Jets made a decent move for the cornerback but they needed more bodies. Only time will tell.
I would like to thank Cam Cameron for keeping the Dolphins as the worst team in the AFC east. What are they thinking?

It comes down to how smart Quinn plays the position. Not every great QB in history has had a cannon for an arm. And not every QB with that cannon (read: Cryin Ryan Leaf) makes a good QB.
As far as his accuracy, it will come down to how many times he tries to thread the needle and force his throws. If he's smart, Quinn will probably not lose the Browns too many games and that's not a bad knock on him, in the long run.

| Quinn is suposed to be a very smart player, it will also depend on who gets to work with him (QB coach), I will give him a couple of years before I say he is not going to make it.

I believe Quinn will become an average to slightly above average QB over time. His biggest weakness supposedly is his accuracy. I didn't see him play enough in college to agree/disagree. But, from the little I did see he didn't strike me as a future superstar.

| I don't think Quinn turns out to be a great NFL QB. His arm strength is suspect and although he ran a pro-style offense in college, he ran it against weak teams. When he faced teams like Michigan and USC he struggled.

A little dissapointed the Packers didn't try and make more of a run at Randy Moss. The Packers receiving corps is pretty thin with our only true option being Donald Driver. I'd love to see how many NFL QB's could succeed with out wideouts. Keyshawn Johnson was released by the Panthers today. Maybe the Pats can sign him and up their WR total to 25.
I also wasn't happy with the Packers draft. I was extremely upset when the Niners drafted Patrick Willis because that meant the Bills would draft Marshawn Lynch. That left the Packers drafting Justin Harrell who was a HUGE reach. If that was the guy we really targeted we should've traded down. Especially with Brady Quinn still available.

I think the Moss trade was a calculated risk, the team thinks that Moss will be too ocupied catching balls from Brady so he will not have time to get upset at fans displaying their displeasure for having him there long enough for the fans to have a change of heart.
This trade will work just because of the team, i don't think many other teams could have/would like to take a cancer guy like Randy Moss.

| That might be the case. He's not going to get any faster with age. Conventional wisdom is that he starts the cadillac like he's done the last couple years of his career and after a couple of years he leaves for a 6th round pick in Detroit.

| Any thoughts on how the Steelers did in the draft. Obviously its early and it will take a couple of years to judge accurately but last years draft didn't net that many players.

| I think Moss will revert to the highly productive receiver he was when he first came into the league. The winning attitude and the focus the Pats have exhibited over the last six years will rub off on him. My guess is he got disgusted in Oakland because there was no hope of winning anything. I may be wrong and he could play like a dog again but if he does Belichek and Co. will quickly show him the door. Even without Moss the Pats are scary good.

I'm very happy with the Cowboy's decision to trade that instead of going with one of the WRs available.
I knew that trade was happening around pick 15 when he was still free-falling and that if he was around at 22 then Dallas would either get him or trade the pick. Dallas had no immediate needs that can't wait until next year, so having 2 #1 picks next year is hot! Plus, there will still be value in the early second round.
