As an intro I'm glad I'm not the only one here who knows Dorothy and is working on shedding those extra love handles. I'm short and most of my coworkers don't know why I'm trying to get into shape, but I would really like to be able to tuck my shirts in again for starters. On the line of cooking, having a partner really put the weight on to start things off. He started telling me he was going to get me a Santa Clause costume for December. In my mind I said no way. Thanks for starting this topic.

Well Love,
I could cook you a vegetarian meal that would make you weep for more, but but vegan is simply beyond my abilities. A few lentil coconut curries with a cashew-nut-butter base is ALL that I can come up with. You will have to illuminate us.
Welcome, looking forward to getting to know you.
PS. Just LOVE your alias .... TALLBUNNY.... cute and funny! LOL.

We have a lot of "foodies" in the San Francisco Bay Area and I've found they aren't really all that into food. The majority that I've encountered are more into the lifestyle of "fine dining" and they care more for the wine, conversation and ambiance than the actual meal itself. The best way to tell if someone is into the food or the dining experience is to ask them about vegan options.
Most people who are really into food enjoy being creative with seasonal vegetables and the freshest ingredients - how they react to the challenge of cooking without the crutches of milk, cream, butter, beef fat, lard, etc. will reveal their true motivations in the kitchen...

Hey Buddh,
Sweetheart, I am just delighted to hear how well you have been doing. 41 pounds is no small accomplishment. You are definitely a contender for the "No Longer Big-Boned Fairy" award.
My hole family are skinny "Foodies". My brother owns a chain of restaurants (http://www.ctfm.co.za/) and my nephew is one of the top chefs in the country (http://www.decadencesa.com/) DO NOT CHECK OUT THESE SITES IF YOU FEEL HUNGRY.
Quite frankly I haven't weighed, I have been measuring. I have lost 36-cm (14.1-inches) around my waist in two and a half months. I do however still have a long way to go, at-least another 33-cm. Ya'll know as you get thinner the progress is more labour intensive. I am up for the fight though.
Thanks For the LOVE. XXX SS.

Hi Grey, Hi Slipry, Nice to hear from you guys! Grey, I love your little parasol! I used to do that all the time at Chinese restaurants ;) Slipry, is your weight on the scale in kilos? This fairy has lost 41 pounds and is starting to feel my inner svelt guy come out (I still have 109 pounds left to go -- but everything is relative). Grey, cool Sparkpage!

Welcome Bud and Slip, Slightly portly faeries are our speciality around here! But the long termers tend to become sylph -like faeries. Bud, I love your quote: "Never, never, never give up!" Gonna carry that with me all day. Slip, put your start out weight in on the scale so you can see how far you have come already. You've earned it and it does help. Stick around, guys, this group is a lot of fun and very supportive. Good luck.

| HEY to all! I'm a total newbie ..... joined today. Just DELIGHTED to see that "there's a place for us" slightly portly Fairies too. Been on a very low carb diet for two and a half months now and I have gotten great results, but the road ahead is still long and my life is swamped with skinny people, so finding a bit of support online is just what I need.

| Yeah, some days are better than others. Today not a good day for either of us. But as Scarlet said "Tomorrow is another day"! You know, any exercise works as long as you stick at it, but it all takes time. Do the exercises you enjoy doing and when you get tired of them try something new. It will all help you get to where you want to be. By the way, I'm telling myself this too! Good luck to you DM.

| I won't lie, it's a little difficult for me right now to find any motivation besides wanting to look better. It doesn't help that my bf is three hours away so it's a little difficult to lean on him and get him to push me.. but so far I'm hangin in there pretty well. I just need to find some sort of exercise that works (besides 8 minute abs.. haha)

Thanks for the advice, guys. All good points. I bookmarked the Hungry Girl site for future reference. Good luck to all.

Forgot to mention that you can find great 'substitution' recipes online - they sub out high fat or high calorie ingredients with healthier ones. My favourite site for these types of recipes is Hungry Girl.
You can find a good selection at: http://www.hungry-girl.com/chew/index.php

| You don't have to feel guilty for cooking healthier meals - just remind the BF that healthy fare will help him live longer and you'll have that much more time together. Ask him to be supportive as you explore new ways of cooking and eating and remind him that he can still get stuff at restaurants if he wants to indulge in foods you no longer prepare at home.

| Not gay but I welcome you non the less. I hope you find the support you need. Stick to the plan and loose some lbs.

|
| My boyfriend says that I don't need to lose weight and I'm perfect the way I am but he'll still support me in it. My biggest problem is I just hate how big I am for how tall I'm not. I'm way too short to weigh as much as I do. I had to go to the dr the other day and I realized I actually weighed 10 lbs more than I thought.

| Thanks for the welcome. I did search and found a couple of gay teams so I feel a bit more involved now. Everytime I mention this diet to my partner he looks pained as though it is he who is dieting. Since I do most of the cooking I am trying not to force it on him, but continue to do the meals I know he likes. Anyone else dealing with this? Can you spell G-U-I-L-T!

Hey Guys, There are a few gay teams, if you are interested. I am in 'Gay Men Sparking Proudly' and there are others...everyone here is cool though, really supportive. Pretty new to the whole thing myself...again, talking about Spark People :) Good to have you along for the ride, Mike

| Yes, I nearly said "Grey & Gay Newbie" then realized it sounded as if I was a new gay. Not! I'm certainly off to a good start too. I have a way to go yet, but I like the enthusiasm. Hope I can keep it going. .
|
|
|
|
| I'm still getting used to the Spark People system - not making much progress on my fitness goals but logging into SP makes me feel like I'm at least doing SOMETHING positive to stay motivated and to keep at it.

| Also a new gay.. (did that sound as funny as I think..) ..for clarification, not new to being gay, but gay and new here.. First day today. Off to a good start. How you coming along so far?

| Just started this week and looking to make some supportive friends. Doesn't seem to have been any messages for gay men since last August. Did everyone leave? Hope not.
