i agree to some extent about removing things from the home. my focus is on teaching her and others, myself, control - it's o.k. to every now and then have a treat. yet know that there are other things besides food that are rewarding. and how to act around "treats." - don't have to eat everything just because it's there.

Robynhome, I would remove the candy/treats from the home, your toddler would be more apt to eat healthy if the other food was not even a choice. Dry dried fruit, yogurts, and granola to help satisfy her sweet tooth. You can still allow the treats for special occasions but keep it to a minimum.
Suebug101, we just went on a cross country trip(over 80 hours roundtrip) with our then 11 month old and 4 other children. We planned ahead with the snacks and meals. Some of the best car snacks were, Cereal mixes (ziploc baggies with different cereals), frozen yogurt tubes, dried fruits, the small individual bags of crackers/cookies.

Good luck with the trip! Since my daughter started eating cheerios - I've made something fun for her - we call it GORP. It's a lot like trail mix. She's 3 1/2 years old now and I still use Cheerios as a base and to it I add things such as raisins, apricots, other cereals, bite size pieces of graham crackers and pretzel. Sometimes I thow in a treat - e.g., m & M or chocolate chips. I get to control the amount she has and she gets control over what she eats - when. I hear the tubes of yogurt or drinkable yogurt are also pretty good.

Hi ladies,

I'm taking a road trip this weekend with my 19 mo. old daughter (daddy's staying home). We have a 5 hour drive to grandma's and I would love any ideas for keeping her happy and entertained. Also, any new ideas for healthy snacks for the road for the 2 of us?

Thanks to all of you for your great ideas...I'm still working at it. I'd lost 5 pounds as of last weekend. I try to stay away from the scale the rest of the week so I don't obsess and get disappointed.

Have a great day!

I think that's a typical dilemma. It sounds like you've tried all the usual tricks. The thing that's helping me with my duaghter right now is her love for "dip dip." She still gets the graham crackers that she loves, but I give her a bowl of yogurt to dip them in. She thinks it's a treat and she's getting some healthy food in her. We also use sour cream, ranch dressing, ketchup, and anything else we can think of for her "dip dip."

I would love any other ideas if you mamas have any!

I have a 3 1/2 year old who loves junk food and a 11 month old who eats just about everything. Any ideas on how to encourage my 3 1/2 year old girl to make heathy choices? We've tried decorating food, cooking together, making creative things such as ants on a log - but it still not as motivating as a plain piece of licorice or a stick of gum.

Afternoon all, hope everyones ok.
Been watching what I've been eating for the past 2 days now and recording it on my spark page, but still yet to get some excercise in lol, think we might get snow here today or tomorrow, just can't find my get up and go lol.

Hi Paigescott, I haven't had a c section so not much help to you with your ab exercises, I'm sure someone will have some advise for you.

How do I get one of them charts to mark your goals at the bottom of the page?
I Want one!! LOL

I have an 18 month old DS and 4 school age children.
I find it very difficult to fit in exercise with him.
Now that it has gotten too cold to get out and walk I feel like a sloth. I'll have to try the dancing with him I'm sure he'll love it.

I have a problem with doing ab exercises, I've had c-sections and abdominal surgeries which have left me with no strength in my abs. I really need to find some exercises that I can do without the pain.

I hear you all on what to do when it is so cold outside! Anyone else getting cabin fever?? At least the kids seem content to amuse themselves for the most part, and we get in whatever activity we can...still dancing!

i am proud mama of a 16 month old boy and also still working on the baby weight. i have a hard time exercising around him. however crunches with a twist(one of exercises on this site), pushups,5 pound weights, many of the plank moves, dancing like a fool with little one in my arms and 15 minutes of yoga wgile he takes his little very short daily nap are all toddler possible activities.

My 18MO is 29 pounds, 34 inches, so I totally understand!

Good idea...with a toddler that weighs nearly 26 pounds, she definitely adds some resistance! (Before you're scared of that number, let me say she's off the charts for height for her age...she's not a Weeble!) She is hilarious to dance with, so that's a great motivator. I just can't wait til it's warmer so we can walk and ride bikes (she has a trailer behind my bike so she has room for toys, baby dolls, juice, etc...she's set!). Thanks for the ideas!

SUEBUG, my son loves to watch Playhouse Disney on weekends, loves the Doodles, and I can't get the theme for Johnny & the Sprites out of my head! But definitely dance energetically to shows they like, and you'll get tons of benefits from that! Exercise, laughter, quality time with your kids...use your toddlers as weights to do tricep extensions, bicep curls, oblique roll...you'll be suprised at how strong you'll get and how much fun they'll have!

Great idea on dancing to the shows...I'd love to find a good reason for the existence of the Doodlebops (ugh!) lol. My daughter likes to dance to the party station on our digital music channels, so we've been doing that some too. Any ideas for ways to sneak in some more veggies for meals that I make for the three of us? She used to love anything green, now she'll barely touch it. She does like to "dip dip," as she calls it, so I've tried using ranch or sour cream as a dip for steamed veggies, which helped a little. I would love any ideas that you have!

Welcome! I myself have two young children, a son who just turned 4yrs and a 22 month old daughter. I still have a little "baby weight" to lose too...and it has all settled into my midsection. I have been a little lazy the last few months with the holidays and whatnot, but found in the past that dancing with one of the kid's shows...(Wiggles, DoodleBops are good ones!) worked well. The kids love to jump and dance around, and joining them can be fun! Also, my kids love to sit on my legs when I do my crunches...it adds a little weight resistance too! I am looking into getting some new work out videos and think my kids will enjoy them with me....we will see! I stay at home and have a tough time fitting it in, so I can imagine how tough working full-time. Goodluck!

Hi all! I am new to the site but thrilled with what I've seen so far. I am the mama of an incredible 19 month little girl. I still have some "baby weight" to lose, and I can hardly call it that since she's not a baby any more! I am hoping to find some friends in a similar situation to share ideas for healthy kid-friendly recipes and for incorporating exercise into our routine despite the fact that it was 13 degrees this morning. (ugh!) I'm having a hard time getting motivated to exercise because it will mean either getting up earlier or staying up later (which I can't imagine) or finding a way to do it with my girl. She loves to dance and will mimic anything I do, so having her with me probably won't be a problem. I work full time and can't work a gym membership into the budget right now. Any suggestions?
