You could make mini pizza's using English Muffins.

Veggie Tray & low fat dip is always good.

I love a cheese/cracker tray. You could most definitely use low fat cheeses & lower fat crackers, maybe some turkey pepperoni.

I have a recipe for a really low fat spinach dip that I found on the internet which is really good served with some toasted bread slices or low fat triscuits.

Pigs in a blanket for the kids? But you could use low fat crescent rolls, and a lower fat hot dog & cut into smaller portions so you could have some too.

Taco Dip:
Layer fat free refried beans on the bottom of a 9x13 dish. Then mix 8oz light sour cream with pkg of taco seasoning. Layer this mixture on top of beans. Then chop some lettuce & layer that on top. Then sprinkle low fat cheese on top. You could also top off with green onions, tomatoes and olives if you like them. Serve with tortilla chips.

Just a few ideas off the top of my head - hope it helps! Good luck! My little girl just turned 2, so I've been there!

my twins just turned one the 17th but due to the weather where we live we wont be hosting their big party till march 31st. our family is notorious for "big" first birthday parties. i've begun experimenting with the recipes i've found here on sparkpeople as well as substituting tried and true ones i've always used with healthier items.

a good one i have is the fat free pistachio pudding (1 box) 1 can crushed pinapple, crushed nuts of choice (i used pecans), fat free cool whip (1 container)
mix the pudding and cool whip together, then add nuts and undrained can of pineapple. you can garnish with a few maraschino cherries on top as they're not bad for calories either.

everyone loves it! we call it watergate. if u need more ideas just let me know.

First birthday parties are so much fun!

Deviled eggs are cheap and simple. I make mine using only half the yolks to reduce the calories/fat. If you want my recipe, let me know.

I like to make baked Wontons as appetizers at parties. You can fill the little Wonton wrappers with just about anything you have on hand.

You can even used canned chicken breast. Mix in a few spices or a little cheese, wrap and bake in baking dish sprayed with non-stick cooking spray at 350 for 15-20 minutes (wrapper will get crisp).

The possibilities are endless when it comes to what you can put in those wrappers! The package I buy has 80 wrappers for something like $3.50.

I found this recipe for 'Spicy Bagel Bites' on www.allrecipes.com. It looks inexpensive and easy.

Good luck at the party!

By the way, your little girl is adorable!

My daughter is turning one next week so we will be having a birthday party for her. There will only be four kids there, everyone else will be adults.

Anyone have any good appetizer ideas? Something cheap and simple?
