Sorry ladies. I'm a tough lovin' mommy. When it came time for my son to give up the bottle that was that. The bottles went into a box never to be seen again. When it comes time for binki to go away, which will be in April when Aidan is 1 1/2, they Binki's will go in the trash and that will be that.
If he has a problem he will learn to work it out on his own. The binki's are to satisfy the need/reflex to suck. Thats gone now and so should the binki/pacifier/soothers.

Hang in there! My daughter was two months shy of turning four when we got rid of all of her pacifiers. Basically, I set a date on the calendar, for Sydney, it was her last day of preschool before summer break. She insisted she needed it on her way to school to help her be less nervous. (So, when school was out for summer, we used it to our advantage.) We talked about it for an entire month. (my daughter used it all the time at home, not just for sleep). On her last day of school, we came home and I had her put them in a box she had decorated for them. She hugged and kissed each one and said goodbye (it was the most adorable thing I had ever seen and I pretended to be busy with dishes so not to give in). We put the box on daddy's workbench in the garage and the pacifier fairy came and took them for new little babies to use (this seemed easier for her than throwing them in the trash).
So, the first week was rough, I won't lie! But here's where I laughed months later...
We were cleaning out the toy boxes and donating most of the "younger" toys to charity she thought she couldn't part with a particular toy to save her live. I reminded her that she hadn't played with it since she was a baby and I said, remember how you thought you couldn't sleep with out your pacifier...and look how great you do that now.
She looked at me and said, my pacifier? I don't remember using a pacifier mom!!!!
And all this time I had doubted and worried, did I take it too soon? did I do the right thing?...I laughed and laughed...hugged her and went on with our day.
At the end of the day, you need to do what you are most comfortable with for your child...but I promise you won't do any permanent damage by transitioning to a pacifier free home!

I agree with Michele. My twins will be 4 in April and they still uses pacifiers at night. I figure they must still need it, and they are only little so long, you know? I think that if you feel strongly about breaking the habit, the best way is probably to have a "going away" party and then go cold turkey. The first couple of nights might be rough though.

Is a soothe a pacifier? If it is then I don't know how to get rid of it but I can share my history with you. I have a 3yr old and a 6 year old who still use a pacifier at bedtime. My oldest gave his up at 5yrs old. My pediatrician said that if they need it for comfort it is ok and eventually they will give it up. Michele

does anyone know of a way to rid my daughter of her soother. She never has it in the daytime,only when she is in her bed,but i know i have to stop letting her have it. My oldest daughter stopped using a soother when she was 2 but i cant seem to get my youngest away from it. She has asthma and has been in the hospital a lot (first time she was 11 days old and stayed in for 2 weeks),i think that i feel so bad for her that i let her have it to comfort her. I really could use some input.
