re: but the funny thing is... no one ever told me i was GAINING weight too fast

I almost blew coffee out my nose laughing on that one! You sure got that right.

I searched for a thread about this topic because I too, though not complaining, have lost 12 pounds in about 2.5 weeks. The water retention issue is gone. After week one, my cankles became ankles again. It was truly amazing. I'm staying well within my calorie allowance so It's not like I'm starving - I eat all freakin' day.

How would the weight loss "taper off" if one continues to burn more calories than they are eating? Isn't it the same 'math'? 3500 calories equals a pound?

When BMI is over 30 it's usual to lose 2-3 pounds each week.
Once BMI is below 30, 1-2 pounds is more the norm

I think you will lose more in the first two weeks because of water and the dieting being a new shock to the body. Trust me, it will level off. I am stuck it seems like and fluctuating a pound or two and it's been only two weeks of actually dieting for me. I am ready to boost up my activity now. Congratulations on the 16 lbs and keep up the good work!

Wow, congrats on the 16 lbs!

Like others have said, I'm sure it will slow down, but if you are not doing anything unhealthy, then don't worry about it!

I thought I heard on tv that the more weight you have to lose, you'll have a lot of weight loss at the beginning.

Keep sticking with it!

the first weeks is normal to lose a lot of weight...i'd say the first 4 weeks but if you see you are losing 5lbs or more a week i'd suggest you to contact a nutritionist, you might be losing potasium and other important stuff

I usually lose 10 pounds the first week or two but then I slow down a lot.

I don't think that is unusual since most of the weight the first week is water. Congratulations and keep up the good work.

now, i don't know for sure, but as long as you're losing weight in a healthy manner i don't believe there's such a thing a losing weight too fast...
i've been told that before, but i lost the weight by doing the same things, watching what i ate and eating better

but the funny thing is... no one ever told me i was GAINING weight too fast

congrats on your weight loss!! but like others have said, it COULD slow down, but i hope it doesn't for you!

It seems like a lot - but as long as you are doing what you are supposed to then I think you're ok! A lot of the initial weight you lose is water weight. Congrats on the weight loss!

Hi all!
I have a quick question. I started here on January 4th, so 13 days ago and in 13 days I have lost 16 lbs. Is this too much? I have cut my calorie intake to what i am supose to, I am not excerising too often as that is my biggest challege right now...finding time between work, kids, sleep too excersise.

Thanks for the Help
