I usually make breakfast sandwiches using the microwave. You can scramble an egg and cook it in the microwave until done, add a slice of 2% cheese on a low fat english muffing. Good Breakfast!!!

A good way to keep your potato from the skin getting a little hard, after cleaning and poking holes in the potato, put the potato in a bowl with just enough water to cover the bottom of the bowl. Flip the potato every few min. until done and you'll have a potato that's just like if had baked it in the oven. Soooooo yummy.

This seems to be a popular question lately. Not to tout the obvious, but I think you guys should check out google:

My favourite snack is low-fat popcorn. You can microwave it, and eat some then, and throw some in a bag to take with you to munch as you're walking between classes.

Pita pizzas are good too. Put tomato sauce, veggies, and lowfat cheese on top of a low carb/high fibre pita, and microwave until the cheese is melty.

You could also microwave canned soups (Campbell's has really yummy low-fat ones that come in a box - I think they're called "Gardennay" here in Canada. If they're a little bland, you can add some spices, or a dollop of lowfat sour cream.

Veggie dogs are easy - just pop 'em in for 30 seconds or so, and eat with your favourite condiment.

Rice can be done in the microwave too - the instructions are usually on the back of the bag.

As long as you check the nutrition info before you buy them, some microwave dinners are half decently healthy, and can be supplemented with salad, or canned/frozen veggies.

When I was in college, we would sometimes have microwave "baked" potatoes when we didn't want to make the half mile walk to the cafeteria--especially if it was raining. Scrub your potatos and prick the skin with a fork a few times. For one potato, you microwave on high for five minutes, flip it then microwave it another five minutes. If you do more than one, you will probably need to add a few minutes to the total cooking time.

Have your favorite healthy toppings ready: shredded cheese, salsa, low fat sour cream, salt and pepper, and low fat chili. Serve it with a green salad on the side.

PS Ask around and see if there is a kitchen in your student lounge that you can reserve. Ours was hidden in a closet and I didn't know it was there until third quarter.

Here's a conundrum for you...

What kind of good food can you make using just a microwave? I live in a dorm and the only [large] appliances we can have are a fridge and a microwave.
Sometimes I don't feel like going to the cafeterias, so do any of you have a recipe a college student can make using just a microwave? I think it'd be cool to make my friends something healthy.
