There can be so much pressure put on ourselves (intentionally or not) during the holidays. Honestly, you should be able to celebrate the holidays however your family feels most comfortable. In our family, we typically discuss our "game plan" around Thanksgiving. We get everyone's input and make decisions based on everyone's feedback. This year we decided not to exchange gifts between the older adults and we made this Christmas about all the grandchildren (with a dollar limit set ahead of time) as each of us as parents are trying to teach our children what Christmas really means. We must have done something right because Christmas night my daughter and nephew broke out singing Happy Birthday to Jesus and it really made my heart smile.

Talk to your family about it. They may be feeling the same way and you may not even know it.

Take care,
Kelly

well we never give gifts for Christmas. simple! it's our rule! i told DH i didn't need anything, i told mom not to even think of getting me a present. i did give her a perfume, but i got several of them frm DH (from the company he works at) and thought i'd give mom one as well.

we put up the three on Christmas Eve.

I don't like the "commercialization" of Christmas. Christmas means the birth of Christ, not giving expensive gifts, not trampling over the store...

Christmas in my family has turned to hell! Everyone is more worried about what presents they get and how much money is spent. They up the price that you spend every year, people are asking for gift cards to Coach, Victoria's Secret, and other expensive stores where the gift card you would get them wouldn't even be 10% of what they would buy. I'm looking into bringing in the TRADITIONAL Christmas like they had back in the days. It sounds so much more festive, but my question is - what did they do that made it so much more Christmas-ie? Food? Songs? Traditions? Did they give presents? Games? Being younger, I feel out of place in this era as well as my husband. We feel that we should have been born in the "Little House on the Prairie" Days! What's your input? Should we "Set IT" up for next year or "Forget IT?"
