Hi, I work from home too. I find that the best approach is planning. I try not to arrange meetings that go over lunch (not always possible). Make yourself a plan for your work day, include time to make drinks and at least 1/2 hour for lunch. Go sit away from where you work and eat a proper meal not just a snack. Choose slowly absorbed foods to keep you from feeling full. Drink plenty.

The important part is to plan your day properly and include breaks in the same way you did when you worked outside the home.

I'm based in the UK and have worked at home for 3 years running my own company. I used to have days when, like you, I thought I was too busy to eat properly. I've found that planning my day right down to making a drink and some lunch means I actually get more done. It makes me more focused and I eat a lot less junk. I also find time to stop work early once a week and go have tea with friends and let the kids play together.

And of course if I don't finish all my work today it will still be there tomorrow!

Hi Redsoda, I do have that problem at times but, I find that I can make meal replacement shakes that are full of all the nutrition you would need and within what your looking for in calories as well. Check with your local Nutrition stores or local Health Clubs in your area. Do not use products like Slimfast and along those lines. Use products that bodybuilders use, this is how they get in all their meals and continue to build muscle and lose weight when neccesary. Also Sparks recipes have a few shake recipes as well. Make-up your shakes in advance and take them out when needed and you can (eat) or drink and work at the same time and never miss a meal again.

I am having a similar struggle - I go out to meetings, and when I get home I think I am so hungry... then I eat too much, and not of the good stuff.

I used to be home mostly in the mornings, and that was easier, but now i am home in the afternoons, and its harder.

REDSODA, i'm working frm home as a manging editor for an IT portal and as a freelance writer and i love it that i have the flexibility to work out and plan everything. i do plan around my DH's schedule (at least i can do that for our family) and i admit that working frm home helped me a lot wt my weigh loss.

my advice is to pack your snacks into servings and also freeze everything divided into servings. what you don't need, just put in place where you don't often look for things and u are saved. :) i don't have any problems wt overeating but i'm very busy lately and have problems wt working out enough

i also divide my meals into 3 real meals and 2 snacks. i used to skip a meal and then munch on what i could to not starve but now i stop what i do (unless it's very very urgent) and eat , then continue.

You have to realize the meals are only 250 calories. And the snacking is planned. If I don't use them, I will still be in calorie range. My favorite snack is walnuts or almonds. For me, it is as much a pick me up as caffeine.

Hi Buckholdt, thanks for the nice reply - 5 meals a day and not cut out snacking ? wow...

Good luck on the ten pounds, it is well within your reach. I eat five meals a day and I eat them on schedule. It doesn't cut out snacking. But, if I want a snack, I can usually put it off. If you are snacking on celery, I think you will be OK. Schedule your meals and then do it, If you want to lose weight, you have to have a plan that will work and execute it.
I am going to check on your motivational person and your blog.

Hi,

I'm a freelancer working partly from home, and I absolutely hate it around my mealtimes - because I kid myself into thinking that "I'm too busy to eat"... which means that I largely skip meals and just munch the whole day...

I really like being freelance- but the food is a problem for me, anyone out there with the same kind of issues ?
