Thanks JC, I am intrigued by the second one with the fruit juices. I'll be looking into that.

As far as how we I eat it, I dish it up on the side and allow it to run into my other foods (turkey, potatoes, stuffing, beans) as I don't eat gravy

Polvora, I grew up eating cranberry sauce on holidays. In African American families, we usually use the canned version and just a small slice & eat along with our turkey & homemade cornbread dressing. It's more of a "sweet" side vs pouring it over the turkey for us. I'm not sure how other nationalities use it. I hope this helps at least from an African American perspective. But you could do it however it sounds good to you.

I don't have a recipe but do have a question. I see many people eat cranberries for thanksgiving, we do not. Do you pour it over the turkey??? My family is hispanic and it was actually I that started the eating the "traditional" thanksgiving dinner. I never caught on the the cranberry craze so please enlighten me. Thanks!

I did a search on sparky for "Cranberry Sauce", there is one entitled "Cranberry Sauce Help!!" or something like that. I'm copying two of the ideas from that thread below. You may also see the Thanksgiving Foods Thread for additional ideas w/o orange to sweeten it. One person stated they sweeten with apples & splenda. I hope this helps to give a few ideas:

I already posted this in a Thanksgiving Foods thread, but this is how I make cranberry sauce:

Boil the cranberries in 2 cups water until they're popping. Stir in a small package of sugar-free Jello and chill.

You can vary the taste by using different flavor Jello - raspberry, strawberry, orange and lemon are all good to me.

Here's a cranberry sauce recipe for you:

there's no sugar. The sweetness is added with honey, pineapple and orange juice.

Hi, I've been wondering the same thing about cranberry sauce. I thought of using splenda or the splenda blend (half sugar, half splenda) but prefer to use a more natural sweetener. Lots of recipes call for orange in cran sauce, so it seems a natural. Maybe a combo of orange juice in place of water, and a cup of oranges to replace sugar? Golden raisins are good too in cran sauce, and probably add sweet to it. Let us know what you find! Becky

There is a cranberry sauce recipe on sparky that sweetens the berries with orange juice & very little sugar. You may try a search for the cranberry sauce in the recipe section.

Does anyone out there know of a way to naturally sweeten the sauce (without using artificial sweetners)? Right now I use 1 Cup of Sugar to a bag of cranberries (and water). Thanks
