We have a multi racial adopted family. Three of our girls are biologically ours, one adopted girl, three adopted boys and 3 older foster boys.
Each kid coming into our family was from a different situation-some from orphages, some from foster homes, and some from their original family but needed a new home for various situations. Each fits into the family in a unique way. Some kids assimilated easier than others, but honestly, by now, they relate like normal irritable siblings. LOL...
Even the ones that act hateful to each other at home, defend each other vehemently in public. kids have joined our family at 3,4,6,8,16,16 and 20.
Good luck..I wish you the love of many....

My husband and I adopted our daughter four years ago when she was six. She is from Thailand. We weren't necessarily looking for a child from a foreign country, it's a long, long story how it all came about. But, our mail concern, as yours may be, was if she would fit in being an older child. We were very concerned if she would feel comfortable here with us. Our worries were for naught. She acted like she's lived here her whole life. It was really amazing. Of course every child is going to be different. There are a lot of books available, I bought one myself on "attachment in adoption", that you can buy. I know you already know, as I can tell from your message that it is more than worth it. It's an amazing experience.

Best of luck to you with your new family!

I think there is some in the Other groups section or even check out the spark teams and others like me and search for this.

I think it's GREAT that you can do this. So many people want the babies and there are all these older kids that want and need a family as well.

I know I've seen a post about adopting, but is anybody here adopting older kids from foster care? We just got our home study approved this month and are now looking for children (the three kids who inspired us to get the ball rolling were all adopted by the time our approval came through). We're approved for kids age ten and up. It's going to be a big challenge, but these kids are worth it and we're committed to it no matter what. I'm adopted myself (from birth), so this is kind of like life coming full circle for me.
