Yessss, you are right about eating too fast! In fact, my husband used to ask me why I eat as if someone is going to take the food away from me LOL...but with 3 young children, post-dinner cleanup, early bedtimes, blah blah blah, it really DOES feel like someone is going to "take" your dinner from you...or take your time away? Whatever the case is, in the past few days since I sarted my resolution to eat ONLY sitting down, it has really made a big differnence! eating has a beginning and an end, and i actally REALIZe that im eating, i can smell it and taste it. and in the end, i hope that can help me eat less! slowly but surely.....

Ugh - I took two bites of my supper last night before I realized what I was doing. It is such a horrible habit! I did sit down and began to eat slower. Do you ever feel like you are racing while you eat?

But today was my first day, and I'm not kidding...it IS a challenge for me! (btw, I decided today to make this one of those "lifestyle changes")

I'm sure there are some ppl who are going read this post and laugh :D

I actually eat standing up a lot too! I will eat walking between rooms, while I am getting ready for work, while I am preparing dinner, etc. We should make some sort of challenge out of it...how many days in a row you can go without eating standing up!

Kris,

after reading your posting, I realized just HOW MUCH I eat standing up, walking to another room, running to get the baby, blah blah blah! Today, I made a resolution NOT TO EAT STANDING UP...LOL...what a little "resolution", but with my crazy home life (ie, im a stay at home mom with three young children under the age of 6!) seriously it has been quite challenging for me!

They (people who don't have babies apparently) say that you should ALWAYS sit down to eat your meals. Here are some reasons why...

When we sit down to eat our stomach is in a relaxed posture and our awareness is on the taste, texture, and smell of the food. This will greatly improve the digestion.

Also, make sure you portion out your meal even if you have to stand to eat it. Sometimes us busy moms will eat right out of the bowl, skillet or pot. It's hard to tell how much we've eaten when we do this. This can help eleminate over eating.

Have any of you other moms out there noticed that sometimes during the day, it's not WHAT you are eating, it's HOW you are eating that effects how full you feel, how much you overeat, etc.

ie, if I'm eating while holding the baby (which happens about 50% of the time), I feel like I can't even TASTE my food!!! :( And then I eat a lot more...ughhh

Comments? Or solutions?????
