We live on a busy road, so walking here could be dangerous. I'd love to get my family, or at least my DH into some sort of exercise with me. I'm hoping to see lots of good ideas here. He also works a lot (full-time job, plus a part-time business), so free time is at a premium.

We try to use the Dance Dance Revolution video game as an opportunity for us to have family fun together while exercising at the same time. It's especially convenient on cold or rainy days. We don't do it as often as we could, but it is a nice option to have. Hey, if your going to play video games, you might as well dance, too.

We walk together as a form of transportation. We walk the kids to school, we walk to the library, and to do other errands. We walk to visit Grandma and Papa, who live about 1/2 a mile away.

We probably walk 10-20 miles a week together.

It's great because we look at things along the way and talk about them. We are closer because we spend this time together with no distractions.

It is hard at first when you make the switch from driving to walking. Expect some complaints. You could try an incentive program where you put the gas money you save aside to buy a special prize of some kind.

There was a book listed recently in one of my e-mails from SP called "the family Fitness fun book" by Rose Kennedy. It said that it listed different things to do from easy to intermediate, from all seaons, city or rural. It said it was around $17.
I have put this on my Christmas list to get for our family.

I hope to take my kids sledding in our back yard, climbing our hill will be some exercise.

Hey Jenny there is one trail over there that is a small easy one.It was the first one we ever did.I have to find the name of it again.but it ends at a waterfall. It is great!I love going over there and spending time.Have you gone before?Cades Cove is a great drive. It is or was closed late last week because of a storm and trees down.In the smokies even slow walking is cardio because of the incline. On the way up anyway. We will be over there just before thanksgiving. We have family coming from Florida and they want to go to Gatlinburg and into the mountains.

PurpleGardenias, my little family (me, DH, and DS) are headed to the Smokies for a few days the week after Thanksgiving. DS is only 3, but if the weather is clear, we plan on doing some of the smaller (like 1 miles or less) hikes.

It is hard to keep a fast pace when I take DS on "nature walks". So, even though I'm getting him active, it's really not enough for me to count as cardio.

Make it fun go to the park, play tag, take walks, just get out and do things no one will even know it is exercise. We go over to the mountains sometimes and walk the trails,or we go to Dollywood walking around there for the day is plenty of exercise and the kids don't even know it.

My kids and I love to play badminton. They don't even realize that we are exercising when we are playing.
