Thanks for all the great advice. I do work full-time and I was very good a working otu everyday after I put the boys down for bedtime, but then fall came and It is darker and colder and it is harder to get motivated to get to the gym. My boys take a cat nap on the weekends---seriously starting about 2 motnhs ago the weekends are no longer nap time----they do have quiet time in their room and hope that they fall asleep, but they usually don't. They are quiet active little guys. They have alwys been very good and i have never sturggled with taking care of them, btu when it comes to taking care of myself is when i tend to be lax. Sorry for not posting for awhile--kind of forgot i started this one!!! Deb

One thing you might try is to eat every 2-3 hours so that you don't end of "starving" and overeat or eat something not on your plan. If possible, prepare several healthy meals at once so that you can microwave them later. You can premake some trail mix (almonds, walnuts, raisins), divide portions into baggies and use that for a quick snack. Also have a big glass of water (sometimes people confuse thirst with hunger).
If your boys are willing to exercise with you (at the park or in the neighborhood), you might be able to get in a few minutes of time for exercise or preparing your meals while they get a much deserved nap, after their workout.

Hey...I'm new here, but was immediately attracted to your post. I have a daughter who will be 2 in December and I have twin boys that will be 1 in December. So right now I have 3 kids under two and I want to pull my hair out sometimes.
I have been exercising and dieting for a while now and I find the only solution for me is to exercise at night when my husband is home. That is what I do for running. For other exercises, I do them during the day when the boys and my daughter are napping. That is also when I eat lunch.
I find that doing the exercise videos when they are napping has really helped me a lot.
Do they take a longer nap in the afternoon when you'd be able to do these things?

I have a 4 year old and 18 month old twins. I pop in a workout dvd while they are playing and do the dvd while watching them play. Or I load them all up in the valco stroller or the step 2 push cars and go for a walk. I just work out with them around! I also eat when they eat. They eat a lot of fresh vegetables and fruit so I just do the same. A typical lunch for the kids is slices of avocado, mozzarella cheese, banana, and Peanut Butter on whole wheat bread.
I enter my stuff as time allows throughout the day! I hope that helps!!!!

I just started a month ago. A week later I found this site. Here is how I do it... I buy those frozen meals like lean cuisine and smart ones. I buy whatever is on sale and preferably the ones with 250 calories or less. But the 180 calories are my favorite. I do this because I know that during the day as I feed the boys, I am inevitably going to taste too many bites of their food. Or I'll be some where and I need to eat something. You know how our days go. So if I add it all up at the end of the day, I will still be within range. And if I run under, I just add to my dinner. That rarely happens:) I use the journal daily to keep my calories within range. The journal is huge. Then I do 8 to 16 cups of water. I wasn't drinking water before. I hated it! But someone (from the site) turned me on to Crystal Lite and now I'm done with 8 cups by noon. And now the dreaded topic of workouts, ugh! I am never going to get up in the morning. It isn't realistic for me. And when the boys nap is when I shower and clean. So I cut into husband time. But not too much. At about 8 - 8:30 when I put the boys to bed, I run around my block 2 times.
This routine works for me. Maybe you can do what I'm doing or tweak it to fit your life. These 3 steps were all hard for me. Reducing calories took about 2 weeks to get use to. And I'll tell you that now it is not a problem. Sometimes I even feel like I'm eating too much. It’s only been a month. And until I found Crystal Lite I was drinking 1 to 4 cups a day and it was painful. And finally the workout I just started this week. I tried to do it without the workout. Before I found this site, a few months ago, I went from 165 to 140 without working out. Just counting calories. But I've stalled. I can't do it anymore without exercise.
So plug in your goals and tackle them one at a time. You CAN do it!!!
One last benefit I got that I wasn't expecting is more energy. I was spring cleaning my house last week. I know! And you and I both know we need the more energy. These boys kick my butt if I'm not on my game.
I almost forgot. This one is high on importance. USE THIS SITE. Log your calories workouts water goals AND FIND A SUPPORT GROUP. When the days get tough, you are going to need the people on this site to get you through it. I have found for myself that no one is better to keep me on track than the people on this site. Alone, I lie to myself. Friends let me cheat. My husband is sweet but it isn't enough. Find a group that fits you. And it may take a couple of posts in different groups to find the right one. I am as successful as I am because of this site. You really can do it. Good luck.

I am sure things are lively at your house for sure! Have you tried working out in the morning before they wake up and get moving? I know it sounds like you would be more tired from that, but after a few weeks, you will notice your increase in energy. Personally, when I work out in the morning before the day starts, I really use that time to think about all I have to do, what I want to accomplish and (again...it may sound funny) but I feel like I have more control and clarity for the day. I also feel more patient through the day because I don't resent that what is important to me (being healthy) has been pushed to the back burner for others.
I have a friend with twin boys (they are 3.5) and I know from watching her that she was exhausted the first two years. It does get easier so hang in there! My youngest is going to be three in February and I still can't believe how fast the time has passed by. Enjoy this special time with them while you can...you are very lucky to have been twice blessed.
Be well, Kelly
