| i only use extra virgin olive oil and a teaspoon is abt 40 cal. but then i only use at most 2 teaspoons a day! :)

| I love EVOO. I also use Pam, as they have a version of olive oil.

| I feel your pain about the calories, but if you limit it to a tablespoon for oe serving of, say, veggies, it's OK. I like to cut up a summer squash and toss in 1 tbsp and some creole seasoning, then put them on the grill or in a pan.

Grapeseed oil has a smoking point of about 420F. Light olive oil has a smoking point of about 468F and extra virgin olive oil smokes at about 320F. So grapeseed oil can be used for everything olive oil can be used for, including sauteing and deep frying. However, grapeseed oil does not have any less fat than any other vegetable based cooking oils. (But like olive oil, it's a "good fat".)
I think flaxseed oil smokes at around 225F -- just above the boiling point of water. It's not very suitable for cooking.
Personally, I sometimes need the extra few fat grams to get to the minimum of my range. Sauteing some veggies in a half tbsp of olive oil does the trick.

| I've heard good things about grapeseed oil, and also flaxseed oil, although I'm not sure you can cook with it.

| My boyfriend has researched it and swears that grapeseed oil is EVEN better for you than olive oil - what does anyone else think? It's certainly cheaper.

It's better for you than butter or margarine, or even other types of oils. It's got monounsaturated fats. I'm sure there are articles on Spark discussing the benefits of various fats and oils, etc.
BUT... it still is a fat! So, use sparingly. I think all oils have 14g of fat per serving, which I think is a TBSP, but I may be wrong.

| I cook with it most every night...I've read it's much better for you than butter and it's a 'good' fat. ...BUT when I estimate how much I use and put it in the food tracker it adds tons of calories to my dinners. I don't use all that much, but just a couple of table spoons is a lot! I'm not sure if I have a question...just kind of confused I guess. I've always read how great it is for you.
