| I KNOW THAT IF I WANT A SIX PACK, I HAVE TO DO THE WEIGHTS, BUT I'M FINDING IT REALLY HARD TO GET STARTED. I HAVE TO WORKOUT AT HOME, AND I AM REALLY CRAMPED ON TIME. ANY IDEAS?

Get your body fat down to about 9% and you've got a six pack. That's about all there is to it. Now what it takes is a low fat diet, intense amounts of cardio (especially HIIT), and serious weight training (especially working the abs different ways), doing all of that for a months.
At 13% body fat, I've got nice shadows between the abs and obliques and shadows between the left and right abs, but that's it. I'm just not willing to do what it takes.

HEY GUYS, I TOO HAVE A GUT, BUT REMEMBER THE DAYS OF YOR WHEN I HAD THAT YOUTHFUL SIXPACK. EVERYTHING I'VE READ ABOUT FLATTER STOMACHS, SUGGEST LOW FAT DIETING, LOTS OF CARDIO, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY...A STRENGTH TRAINING REGIMENT. THE BODY NATURALLY BURNS FAT TO MAINTAIN MUSCLE. THE MORE MUSCLE, THE MORE CALORIES YOU BURN NATURALLY. SO IF YOU STALL, CHANGE IT UP A LITTLE. THROW IN SOME EXTRA STRENGTH TRAINING. BUT KEEP YOUR CALORIE INTAKE AND CARDIO BURN IN PROPER PRAPORTIONS.

Matt: If actually DID 5 MILLION crunches . . . well, you'd probably be dead . . . Anyway . . .
I feel your frustration. I have read too many times that when you lose weight from lots of cardio, you just tend to shrink and maintain the same proportions. Same size and shape. As Matt et al say, you just have to keep going.
But, still, for me, I just can't help but to paraphrase Samuel L. Jackson:
"I have had it with this blanker-blankin' gut on this blanker-blankin body!"

Unfortunately some people will NEVER see a 6-pack no matter what they do. Some of it hs to do with genetics, which we have no control over. If you have good genes then the only real way to do it is to eat healthy and exercise. In order to lose fat you must burn more calories than you consume. So you can do 5 billion crunches a day, but if you consume 2,000 calories and burn 2,000 calories, you won't lose any fat. Focus on good cardio, healthy eating, and a lot of good core exercise.

| I'm in the same boat... persistance is the key. I've made great progress over the last two months but am still not able to see the six pack. I know though that I've been there before and it was through consistant trips to the gym. Progress will get slower and slower the closer you get, but you can get there. I'm looking to be closer by Oct 25th and fully there by Christmas. However, if I am not there by Christmas I'll just push my goal back a bit... as long as I'm true to my goal, I know I'll get there!

Thanks Jeff, That's kinda what I thought, just needed to hear it. All I've been doing is jogging 3 miles a day and working with weights a couple of times a week. I'm getting results, but I kinda hit a wall. I'll keep at it. By your picture, it seems you're kicking butt. Congrats! Take care, Keny Mc

| Cardio, cardio and a bit more cardio I'm afraid... And some core work too. I'm the same way as you - not bad everywhere else but still a residual beer belly...

hey KENYMC
I dont think there is a way to just lose weight in your gut. I had a gut that had to go and the only thing that worked for me was vigerious cardio exercise on a regular basis. It takes time and persistance. I also do alot of crunches but that is simply to strengthen my core. I hope this helps.

Hello everyone, Is there any trick to flattening out this gut? I have lost 15 pounds since Aug. 16th, but I still have this belly! How can I centralize my efforts more on my gut? Thanks in advance for any advice! Keny Mc
