I was worried about the same thing with my son - that he would be out of the bed all of the time because of the freedom. Funny enough, he was so used to the restrictions of the crib that he didn't realize he could get out of his bed with the help of Mommy or Daddy. He used to wake up and yell for us to come get him. It took a few weeks for him to learn he could get out of bed on his own if he was done sleeping.
My daughter turned 2 almost four months ago. We tried transitioning her to a day bed (her crib converts into it) but she freaked out. Would run out of the room crying and screaming. She slept in the port-a-crib for 2 weeks before we finally put the crib back together. Now I do not know when or how to start the transition again

Hi Cancungrl,
I think the transition to a "big girl bed" honestly depends on your daughter. I have two daughters myself and each child was different. The transition for my oldest was fairly uneventful but my youngest (who is two and a half) had some anxieties around it all. For Peyton, we put her bed in her room a few weeks before we made the switch. She was starting to want to climb out of her crib and she was showing interest in her big sister's bed. Allowing her to have the bed in her room for a bit before she started using it helped ease her fears of it all. She loved laying in it to play and read. When she started taking naps in it a few days later...we took the crib apart in front of her (she helped daddy take it apart) and we really pumped her up for her big girl bed just like her big sister had. It worked for us. My oldest, began using her big girl bed in one day, no issues at all. Each situation really is different. I would take cues from your daughter and go from there. Peyton was just about two years old when she made the full transition because I remember her showing off her big girl bed to everyone at her birthday party. Hang in there and keep us posted!

| my oldest child hated the crib so she was in a bed at 18 months. each child is different by the time the child can climb out it is time but I knew a kid who was four and still slept in a crib and didn't want to go to a regular bed.

| At what age should I put my toddler in a bed, not a crib? I'm scared she won't want to stay in her bed if she can get out. She just turned 2 a month ago.
