If you want detailed information on how SP came up with the calorie range check the Resource Center. At the bottom of the Nutrition Rescource page there's an article called Calorie Calculation 101.

The formula already takes into account any exercise you entered when you signed up or when you change your diet goals. Then it gives you a range and eating anywhere in that range should still allow you to loose weight. After that it's just a personal choice where you want to eat. Staying closer to the lower end may let you loose a bit faster than eating at the higher end but anywhere in there will allow you to loose. And an occasional day outside the range shouldn't cause too much trouble for most people.

To give a real life example, I usually eat close to the higher end of my range (and sometimes well into the range that I need to eat to maintain weight instead of loosing) and have still experienced steady weight loss.

I think it depends on the amount of exercise you do, and if you feel good with the amount that you are eating...... I have been trying to do cardio every day...It burns more calories...So if you burn 300 calories and do strenghtening exercises you might be fine eating closer to the end....if you exercise less and burn say 200 calories maybe you might want to eat closer to the lower amount...I find that I usually eat what they say I should... I might be off around 50 or a tiny bit over which I try not to do.... But if you exercise everyday.... 20 minutes on an exercise bike..you burn around l96...and so if you do around 40 minutes on a treadmill or go for a 35-40 minute walk you burn another 230....and you can eat all your calories...I think it is important to remember not to go below the recommended amount because it will put you in starvation mode and your metabolism will be slow...If you do cardio and work the larger muscles, the leg muscles and muscles you use when you walk, or jump or run or jump rope these muscles burn fat better and keep your metabolism up...I believe I read.....1 lb equals 3500 calories...so you have to burn or eat a combination that works out to 500 a day...and in a week if you body is getting in tune with itself you will lose a pound...make sure you get your recommended sleep, drink 8 glasses of water a day and eat lots of fruit and veggies...

I hope some of this information helps...I have been using Sparks since May 6 and it has helped me realize some of the reasons why I gained weight in the first place...Plus....rule of thumb....

Never give up..... even if you mess up...eat more than you should, exercise less, whatever, always wake up the next morning determined to do it again...you will be surprised, as I was that they really do know what they are talking about and it is all good.

Remember it is important to eat, this is not just loosing weight it is about making correct food choices that will keep your body running smoothly, it is about giving yourself what you need to keep yourself healthy... All the people are great here..I hope I did not steer you wrong and gave you some
FOOD FOR THOUGHT...LOL
