| wow . . .that's an excellent idea mykidzzmom. . . he's too wrong to write sentences, but for now we could look up a bunch of verses that have to do with lying and get him to repeat them back to us

I don't know where you stand religiously so if I offend anyone I appologize right now. My son is 6 1/2 he still lies but not as much as he used to. It got to the point that when he lied we would go to the bible and have him repeat verses about lying. And told him that God does not like a lying tongue. That helped quite a bit. We also had hime wright I WILL NOT LIE 20 times for every lie he told. Like I said-it hasn't complelety stopped but has gotten soooo much more better.
Good Luck!

My kids have always been taught that if you do something wrong you will get your punishment, but if you lie about it too, you get double added. For example... Did you break mommy's figurine?, no mommy, I said did you break it? really no mommy well you were the only one here, so who broke it... ummmmmmm, wellllllllll (5 minutes more of interrogation) I gotta tell you something you better tell me what happened to the figurine I broke it for real sooooooo no cartoons for 2 days for breaking it, and double added for lying means 2+4= 6 days of no cartoons.
Getting 1 round of punishment suddenly doesn't look so bad when you're looking at triple sentence. Lying gets curbed quite quickly.

| My son is 4 1/2 and also a chronic liar. I'm at my wits end! Everything is "gravity did it" or "my brother did it." He steals from the fridge & from the neighbor's fridge! I keep telling him that I can't believe anything he tells me b/c he lies so much, but he keeps right on. I know it's a stage, but Good Lord I'm going nuts!!

I've found that telling my son that nobody will believe what he says if he lies made a difference in his lies. We told him that one day he might really need us and that we might not believe what he says because of his past behavior, and actually got to use it in a real life situation, so now he is a lot more truthful. also it is a stage they go through. so if you reinforce the fact that lying isn't ok and that he needs to be truthful he might just grow out of it. Also make sure people in your household set the example. kids don't know the difference between a white lie and a big lie. (not that you lie in your household but just in case) hope this helps a little.

| his lies are both to get out of trouble and to make stories to make life more interesting. thanks for the suggestion
| What kind of lies are they? Trying to get out of trouble lies or more like stories to make life more interesting? If they are outright lies then make sure he knows there are bigger consequences for doing wrong and lying about it then doing wrong and fessing up to it. If it's just stories find a way to let him express his imagination. Maybe help him write a short story, have him tell you a bedtime story, etc.
