Have a fancy looking dessert for you...the red, white and blue parfait.
1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup raspberries or strawberries (or both!)
1/2 cup light vanilla yogurt (or frozen yogurt for summer)
In 2 tall glasses, layer 1/4 cup blueberries, 1/4 cup yogurt and 1/4 cup raspberries. Top with 2 tablespoons each of light whipped cream. After he's done eating it, tell him that it's low cal and healthy. You could also use low cal chocolate pudding and strawberries.
I think a lot of guys (my bf included) think that healthy food means tofu and sprouts and stuff with no flavour! Once mine tried this recipe and LOVED it, he came around to the idea of having a healthier household.
Also, in the recipe swap thread, there's a recipe called "Death by Chocolate Mousse" - another one of our faves!

Thank you for your response. I love your snack ideas!!! If I can make tasty(healthy) snacks, he probably wouldn't know the difference. And I do just have to ignore him and remember there are good foods I like. A friend at work told me to freeze grapes, then it would be like a sweet frozen desert other than ice cream!

My husband is a junk food freak. I was watching a movie with him the other day and he was munching on a licorice whip and he smacked me with it and said do you want one. I said you know I can't eat that stuff. He said gee I don't know what you can eat or not. I just ignore it. He loves that stuff but I love him and after 23 years he is not likely to change. I want him to be happy and that is what he likes. If I talk about healthy and nutrient he just looks through me, but I am not going to complain I make them eat alot of salads and I go easy on heavy stuff and so if he has it he must crave it. I am not so bothered if he is eating it in front of me. I quit smoking l3 years ago and can be in front of someone who smokes (although not often), if I can do that I can ignore them with the munchies.

I don't buy a lot of junk. Pop, for them once in a while, I never drank it. Cookies, haven't bought them in a while, so I will buy some for him and tell myself no.

Man, I can reach my total calorie goal munching on berries and veggies and fibre yummy bread and light whip cream...I don't think it is a bad trade off. I even get him to eat fish once in a while. Saturday
we went Strawberry picking. We (the three of us)
ate a flat of strawberries in less than a week. Healthy just by themselves with meal. I think it was a healthy trade off. I buy most healthy stuff. But still it is hard not to crave it a bit.

But you guys here come up with some great alternatives...Someone said Graham crackers come in chocolate flavor. and take light whip cream mix in some peppermint extract and put in the middle of two crackers and freeze. Ice cream sandwiches. mmmmm

I dont'miss fast food, although once in a whil but
not too often we get a pizza. I am almost sick when I check in and see the calories and carbs so I remind myself that if I want a taste I can either enjoy it or eat it and feel guilty cause I did eat it...I have an easy guilty complex so I try not to do that.

Maybe I can make my own pizza. A healthy one with a whole wheat crust and brocolli and mushrooms or healthy toppings......There a thought.

Ignore the negative and look at the positive. I am sure that after a while he will see you eating all that good stuff he will want some too. You can eat only so much junkfood and than your body tells you enough is enough.

Thank you for the advise. I haven't actually thought of talking to him. It seems so obvious, but it never occured to me. Maybe I could convince him that this is fun. I passed some male profiles today, so maybe he'd like this website too.

sounds like my ex - we where together for almost two years and in the time he gained 80 pounds, where I lost 50 - try as I might to get him to eat healthy and work out he refused to do so

he couldn't understand why I was eating what I was eating and how I could go out and walk as much as I was walking - it got on my freaking nerves, hed sit at him comp all day (he didn't work, and refused to find work - antoher reason why he became an ex) chatting online with ppl, doing his nazi stuff (strike two), and a bunch of other things (online cheating anyone - strike three).

Try talking to you partner and get his side of things, maybe you can both work it out, if not well its a choise you will have to make in regards to life with him

luck

I kind of had the same situation, but opposite at first.. let me explain.

See, my boyfriend is into body building, and in really good shape, so he kind of made fun of me at first. And, he would also kind of tease me with food.

All you have to do is explain how important it is to you, and I'm almost certain he'll be more supportive.

Good Luck!

I bet he is scared you are going to leave him in the dust .. especially if yu get healthy and he decides to stay unhealthy. YOu should talk to him and set some boundaries as to what is acceptable and not acceptable. I think friends/lovers who sabotage are quite common. Too bad he is being this way. Keep up the hard work : )

I have a live in boyfriend who gained weight at the same rate as I have over the last 2 and a half years. We always talk about being healthy, but now that I'm doing instead of talking I feel like he's trying to sabotage me. He bought a whole bunch of unhealthy food that we normally don't choose. He bought candy in front of me and tried to give me some. Then he confided in me that he misses his partner in crime. It's hard to keep will power this early on without his extra temptation. Any suggestions?
