Thank you for your suggestions. I am going to start with a new vegetable per week. I am liking this SP all around. It is fun! I'll keep you posted. Got to go to work now.

Hmmmmm...this can be challenging. Well, one concept of SP is that you introduce changes into your life one or two at a time. You can do that with the kids too...Adjust an ingredient of a favorite meal to a fat-free option, introduce a new vegetable once a week, drop down one level of milk - like go from whole milk to 2%, then give it a couple of weeks and slip down to 1%.

Don't be afraid to make old family favorites, just slim them down - did you know you can make a really chunky spaghetti sauce with your choice of cooked carrots, celery, green peppers, onions, mushrooms, and chunks of tomatoes, and no meat? Have you tried fat free sour cream? I can't tell the difference! How about making applesauce pancakes where you substitute most of the oil with applesauce and some cinnamon, and use egg substitute intead of whole eggs? Yummy! I like Mrs. Butterworth's sugar free pancake syrup because it is a lot like regular syrup, but with virtually no calories. I make my own fat free dressing by mixing fat free mayo with salsa (equal parts)- its like thousand island dressing, but without the fat and better tasting than a lot of commercial salad dressings. Be creative!

Have a "test kitchen" item a couple times a week. This could be a new recipe that you make a small portion of, everybody tries, and gives their opinion on. There is no pressure to have to eat a lot, just a taste or two, and because they are helping you choose items, the kids may be more likely to be willing to try new recipes. Make a game show of it!

Another thing is to simply sit down with everybody and share what you are doing and why. kids like to be included in new projects, and maybe they can come up with some cool family rewards for everybody eating their veggies.

Just remember, SP isn't so much about being on a diet, but more like moving towards a healthier life. It's also about maintaining common sense in a crazy world. If you make a lot of drastic changes right off the bat, YOU may also give up too. Take is nice and easy, and start on the inside first. You may be surprised at how smooth the adjustment may prove to be.

Most of all, have fun and enjoy SP. It's a wonderful site and incredibly helpful! Take advantage of all it offers!

I'd love to hear how it goes. Keep in touch!

I am just starting to use Sparkpeople, but I want my family to eat what I eat as well. My kids are not crazy about the menus. But I intend to offer the meals to them anyway. I just don't know how to make it safe for them. I don't want to put them on a diet but I don't want to be cooking two or three different meals per day to accomodate them. Any suggestions?
