| I have been trying to increase my water intake. I have been a big soda drinker in the past, so for right now I have been reinforcing myself with a soda if I drink my 8 glasses of water for the day. And I have to have my water done by 5:30 so I can drink a soda in class. It seems to be working out well so far!

|
| I try to drink 20 oz of plain water every time I eat something that helps a lot. I do drink quite a bit of flavored water also. One of my goals was to eliminate soda as I find myself reaching for a snack whenever I have one.

HI Mizztrie,
I had read somewhere on here that I could count caffeine free teas, but not caffinated ones. I hope its true since I count them ;-)

I read in the Q&A last night that you can substitute diet soda and tea for your water intake. Here's the scoop from the experts:
Q: Can other drinks such as diet sodas and herbal tea count towards my 8 glasses of water for the day?
A: The latest recommendations from the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science, Dietary Reference Intake for Electrolytes and water says..."The fluids consumed do not have to be only water. Individuals can obtain their fluids from a variety of beverages and foods. Contrary to popular opinion, consumers do not need to consume "eight glasses of water a day" to meet their fluid needs.
However my own personal opinion, particularly for people trying to lose weight, is to encourage additional water intake whenever possible. I feel it helps to cleanse the body when weight loss and fat breakdown is occurring. I also know that it helps to keep the hands and mouth busy, so snacking is less. This is a form of behavior modification. I personally know that many people feel better when at least 4-6 glasses of plain old H2O is consumed to help meet total fluid needs.

Hi SONRIENTE Does the herbal tea count as water? Like if I drink decaffinated orange spice tea, does that count towards my water for the day?

| I don't buy any soda at all - that way I HAVE to drink water when I am thirsty. Luckily, I like it! :) I do use sugar free kool-aid (once in awhile) and the Wal-Mart brand of Crystal Lite ($1.76 instead of over $3!!) to help when I get sick of regular water. My fridge is FULL of bottles of water, too! :)

|
|
| I put a slice of lemon or a crystal light packet in my water. That way it isn't "just" water. I also keep bottles of water in my fridge, that way I always have ice cold water when I want one.

What do you do to drink enough water?
I brew a cup of herbal tea and pour it over a big glass of ice.
When all else fails, I do the same with regular tea. I can't count the cup of regular tea, but I can count the melted ice that turns 8 oz of hot tea into 16 oz of ice tea.
