Thanks for the reply you have convinced me to get tested just in case, I especially would rather know now if I will have to fight this later on in life

I get about 90 grams or more of protein everyday and barely meet my carb minimum. I do it by eating the following: plain beans such as black or pinta (I just heat them up or cook them in a skillet with some veggie broth and seasonings), grilled chicken and I never use oil so if I can't broil it then I use veggie broth to keep it moist and garlic or seasonings, non-fat cottage cheese, 3 to 5 real egg whites a day with zero yolk, greek 0% fat style yogurt made my a company called fage. I'd rather eat pasta, donuts and bread but this stuff keeps me full and my eye doesn't wonder.

I was 210 a couple years ago and got down to 162 but couldn't get lower. So I ampted up my cardio to 25 plus miles of running at 8 to 11 minute miles, sprints on a track, and strength training to failure 3 times a week plus a significant diet change. The main diet change consists of two things ... eat raw/unprocessed foods every single day in abundance and load on protein with significantly reduced carbs and calories. I've been doing this new routine since Jan. 3 2006 and I now weigh 235 so I know it works and I have plenty of energy to do all that working out and keep up with my life.

High protein and low carbs is what you want then Tuna fish is what you get vixen. It has made a big difference for me in the diet wars.

vitamins won't make a difference. I have been on mediacation for 2 years now and am still not 'normal'. Every six month's have to increase my dosage as my thyroid shuts down a little more it is very frustrating. thyroid problems are in my family to. Spend the money and get tested. The medication is cheap. It gets depressing when you have no energy so you don't want to add that to any other medical condition.
Today was a good day exercised and ate well, always feel good when I do the things that are good for me still haven't figured out why I 'fall off the wagon' eat bad and don't exercise. I feel in control when I've had a good day. Something I have to work on is understanding why I do things that are opposite of my goals.
Keep up the good work guys. Hugs

I suspect that I may by in the same boat with hypothyroidism but I have no insurance to check there are a few people in my family with hypothyroidism do you think shelling out 12bucks for an overthe counter vitamin/diet supplement formulated for it would help?

Visitiblue - I know how you feel. I've started exercising and have been careful with my eating; however, I haven't kept up with my food journal. I don't know what wrong with me. I see my friends who are members of Weight Watcher and all the weight they lost but I know that is not the program for me. Someone kick me in the butt to get me out of this slump.

Fell off the wagon big time. Gained 10 pounds in the last few months. Not handling stress well, not exercising much, lack eneregy, just sucks. Have to get remotivated again. No more excuses. Walked for 30 mins this am and have eaten wisely so far today. I guess 1 day at a time will be my motto for this week.
I will succeed

Falling off is easy --- but, just try to get back on as quickly as possible. Not good to beat ourselves up about it!
These are long term changes!

I think that may be the change I need because I tend to be a carb lover. Any suggestions on a high protein/low carb diet?

I do have hypothyroidism and I a clean bill of health. My levels are normal and I take my synthroid religiously.

Yes, I track everything. Even if I have one cookie I track it. I just don't understand.

Are you drinking alot of water? That flushes out the fat. Have you tried high protein/ low carb? That might kickstart more weight loss. Don't give up!!

Maybe there's a medical problem. Have you had your thyroid checked?

Latin, it doesn't make sense. If you aren't going above your calorie limit and you are working out you should be losing weight. Maybe you aren't tracking all the things you eat - bites or nibbles here and there or the correct portions/servings. I read a bunch of stuff on size and track every single thing I put in my mouth include 1/4 a teaspoon of olive oil when I use it to spray a pan to cook chicken even. I also use measuring cups/spoons and have a nice scale I take with me when I eat out. I'm a nut but am only a couple pounds from my 130 goal down from 210 so I know it works. Good luck.

well, exercise and eating correctly go hand in hand if you do one and not the other you probably will not get the results you want. The more constant you are the more results you will see. I wish you well.

Hi, I'm back have been so unhappy with my lack of results (with an initial weight loss of 6 lbs since March 17). I haven't kept up with my food journal;however, I've still been exercising. I just got the Pilates work out CD and will try to incorporate it with my other stuff. I really need a diet I can follow. The suggested stuff on the site just isn't me and obviously what I've been choosing isn't working (even though I don't go over my calorie limit). Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
