Happy to help! It is realistic to think that you can drop 12 pounds in the next 8-10 weeks. It's recommended to take off 1-2 pound(s) per week if you want to drop the weight in a healthy way and maintain the loss in the long run. So by mid-late August you can reach your goal. As far as your hips...every person is different and our bodies may read a desired number on a scale but pregnancy can alter our shapes for sure. I still don't have the body I had before children. My mom used to tell me after my first daughter was born, that it takes 40 weeks to create a life - let your body have another 40 weeks to repair itself. I think that with consistant fitness and healthier food choices, anything is possible. Don't be hard on yourself along the way. You will get where you want to be eventually. On the days when you are frustrated or discouraged, look at that beautiful son of yours and smile at the blessings in life.
Hang in there, Kelly

| Thanks for the article, that helps to point me in the right direction. My son will be 6months in 2 weeks and I am currently 12 lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight... is it realistic to think I can lose this weight by Aug.? And do your hips ever go back down? I feel that they really widened during the pregnacy :(

Sure thing! Walks are a great way to get your cardio in. I put my two in our double stroller and head out for long walks every chance I get. There are some really good articles in the Fitness Resource Center on how to get your fitness in while you are at home too. Here's one that I thought you may benefit from if you are looking at getting a few things to get you started at home:
Get Fit Without Leaving the House
Hope it helps!

| Thanks for the advice I'll have to give it a try. Right now my main focus is on nutrition and diet more than fitness. I try my best to take the baby for long walks in the stroller but that is about all I get to do since I am alone with him much of the time. I am hoping to buy some fitness equipment for the house soon.

For me, I print my weekly fitness plan and put it on my fridge. This way, when I go to snack I can be reminded of how hard I worked out or what I will be doing later that day. It helps keep me from reaching for things that may have otherwise sounded like a good idea...so I grab the grapes instead of the pudding cup!
It also helps keep me on top of getting my fitness in. If I see it on paper, I am more likely to want to scratch it off my list of things to do.

Hi Ladies! I am also a chocolate/sweet junkie :( I am trying to lose 15lbs. I had a baby back in Dec. and before him I could handle that stuff and it didn't effect my body too much but now my bad habit is effecting weight loss. It is so hard not to be tempted, my husband works all the time and when I am alone I crave that stuff. Any tips for staying on track?

You know Edy's has a great "no sugar added" ice cream that I found and it doesn't lack in flavor. I had gestational diabetes with my first pregnancy so I had to really watch my carbs/sugars.
Hang in there! Kelly

As Mom's we have a tendency not to put ourselves first. This is something I have been working on as well! Thanks, Missi

I am glad that you can use it in a positive way. I'm sorry that you are struggling with those emotions right now. One day at a time and always remember that you are worth it. I know it may sound silly but putting yourself and your physical and mental well being first is ok. I'm not sure who said it first, but I like the expression that "if you don't put yourself first, no one else will". One step at a time! Kelly

You are right that phrase fits so many things in my life. I will have to remember it everyday. I am recently seperated and believe my weight problem is due to the life I was leading. But the habit of the relationship sometimes takes over my mind. The bad habit of snacking because of sadness, worry and loneliness is a mind thing. Thanks for sharing I will use it daily. I also love your signature quote. That fits me to a tee as well. Thanks Again!

I was reading a book a few nights ago and there was a line in it that read "My mind is stronger than my habits". It struck me in a way that I had to re-read it (while thinking, what a great quote). It can hold true to so many functions in our daily lives. We get in a habit of being to tired too work out. We fall into habits of snacking at night when we are bored. I personally fall into habits of placing everything else before my own needs (being a mother can really burn you on this one!) When I read that line in the book (Burnt Toast by Teri Hatcher) I just paused for a moment and stared at the page. So maybe next time, when I see myself falling into another one of my "habits" I can remind myself to stop - "My mind is stronger than my habits".
What habits hold you back?
