I'm going to disagree - at least a little. If you are able to lose/maintain weight without tracking food - that's great. But even if you can do this, I still think you are better off tracking your food. You get a lot of good information there about fat, protein, carbs, cholesterol, sodium, etc. besides just tracking calories that make it worthwhile to continue to track your food on a consistent basis - whether you "need" to or not.

I've been tracking my food for over a year now. I *think* I would be able to stop tracking and still maintain my current weight, but I believe I am still getting important information and also strengthening my better eating habits by tracking my food.

I agree - I find the calorie tracking is a great way to make me more aware, I'm still doing it as a "sanity" check to verify I'm where I think I am - most of the time I'm close. My hope is that I'll get to a point where I am more aware of how many calories are in the foods I typically eat and don't need to look it up.

I don't track my calories anymore [been here a few months] - I think now you're at the 5 week point it won't hurt, as you already have the good habits.

It's definitely not a sin. And you're not setting yourself up for failure if you are truely able to keep track of what you eat. For me, once I started tracking I realized how much more I was eating than I thougt. Add up the mayo, oil, all the little stuff you wouldn't never think of and it starts adding up. I used to cook with lots of oil, but at 120 calories per tablespoon I rarely use it now.

Don't stress about not tracking. Some people are able to transition to it very quickly.

Keep up the great work!

Ok, so I have been on Sparks for about five weeks. I have found that I know the calorie total for most of my regular meals. I have slacked off on tracking the food but have been keeping a mental record. Am I setting myself up to fail or is this a sign that I am going from "diet" to lifestyle change?
