I hate seeing photos of myself, and I avoid having my picture taken at all costs. I have a lot of holiday photos where I am the one behind the camera so I'm not in any of the shots. That's not accidental, lol!
I also avoid public mirrors or even the house mirrors, reflections in windows, etc.
That's why when I started this time it was important to me to take BEFORE photos and post them on my SparkPage, plus take my measurements. I needed to be brutally honest with myself and get out of the 'it's not that bad' phase of denial and avoidance.
It sure is painful. :(

| What do I think about when I see a picture of myself or see myself in a mirror or plate glass window? Well, first of all, I don't recongnize myself. It takes me a second to realize that the large distorted person is me. I still have this mental image that I'm 27, 135 lbs., at 5'8". It's sad to realize that I've almost doubled both the age and the weight.

I have been shocked when I see myself in photos too. I tell myself, "how could you have let yourself get so big again!" I say again because I lost the weight before.
You'd think seeing pictures of yourself at your biggest would get me to lose weight. Nope! That's not what got me to SP. What DID get me here was seeing a photo of myself from Haloween '99 weighing in at 160 lbs. 10 pounds away from my goal weight! I REALLY looked at the photo and relized I AM a beautiful person (my self esteem never allows me to say that! lol) and I deserve to be healthy just like everyone else.
The picture was in my sister-in-laws photo album and I'm gonna ask her if I can make a copy of it for my motivational poster!

It's good for me/everyone to "wake up" and see ourselves as we really are (get out of denial)....but at the same time, we shouldn't downgrade ourselves or talk badly about ourselves. Remember that you're a great person! You deserve the best! That includes looking good, being healthy and feeling great. Now -- let's shoot for it! It's time to put ourselves first! We deserve it!

| I get that OH NO shock when I see myself in a mirror. Until now I just tried to ignore it. Now I am doing something about it. I will look at myself long and hard every 3-4 days in a mirror just to try and stay motivated and see what I do have to lose! I know what I can't lose, Mark 8:36 'For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?' Praise the Lord:) rocky20

I put my pic up on the fridge, next to the dress I want to fit into. It is supposed to be good motivation but sometimes I still reach for the junk food.

| I try to remind myself that I have the opportunity to fix this problem. I can take it or leave it, but it's always up to me.

| I got my embarrassing wake up call a couple of months ago. I was on the video of my sons spring Kindermusik performance. What a Lardo! I signed up with Sparkpeople the next morning.

I said too myself girlfriend you need to lose the weight, so far so good over 30 down less than 30 to go
|
|
|
|
| A photo is what woke me up to the fact that I was 50 pounds overweight. It's strange to me how I can live in denial while I pile on the pounds. I woke up -- lost 34 lbs. -- have about 19 lbs to go before goal weight. My main ambition is to MAINTAIN GOAL WEIGHT.

I hate to see myself in family pictures. I'm determined to do something about it this summer and this time stick to it. Sparkpeople is the best motivator I have found so far!

Saw a picture of myself today. I always tell myself, "Oh it's just a bad picture. I couldn't possibly be that big."
It would be healthier to get out of denial and get on with loosing the weight, which I am doing!
What do you say to yourself when you see a photo you don't like?
