Look, as much as I like Dusty, I think his downfall is always his mistakes in managing his pitching staff. When he was with the Giants, he was really exposed in the '02 WS; he shoulda left in Ortiz--he was fine . . .

Anyway, I digress. Perhps you don't need to give up on "Johnny B" just yet. What you really need to do is GIVE UP ON WOOD!!! Sorry, folks. It ain't gonna happen. He just can't stay healthy physically. AS for Zambrano? Well, that's a mental health issue, I think . . .

Hey, it's ALWAYS pitching, ain't it?

Well, it's never the Pirates' year! Can they just turn that franchise into a farm club and get it over with?

I understand what your saying. My team (Dodgers) hasn't made any noise since 1988. You keep showing up because you think "Just maybe . . ."

its funny I just looked at the standings this morning and thought of this thread. I thought it died like the cubs. (joking cubs fans). Iwent to the game in Houston where Carlos Zambrano(sorry for mis-spelling) pitched against the Astros. He had a no no going into the 8th. Had a home run and 4 RBI's. My buddy likes the Cubs so at least he enjoyed that game.

I know, but am I a sucker for that underdog, I still go into every season thinking "this is going to be the year". One year it will, and without a chimp, Disney or a child prodigy. In the meantime, Ill go visit my friend in Chicago and we'll hop on someones rooftop for a barbeque and root them on. Wrigley will forever be my favorite ballpark! Although AT&T (formerly SBC, formerly Pac Bell) isn't so bad either, which is good since I can get to AT&T a little more easily.

I don't think it'll happen this year. They 14.5 games back. Stranger things have happened in life, but without Disney jumping in, filming a movie and adding a chimp or a 12 yr. old pitching phenom to the roster, it aint gonna happen.

Brutal Crowd - I have to weigh in on this one. I now live in San Francisco, so I catch a lot of Giants games and root them on...despite how they are doing! When I was young we lived outside Chicago and had season tickets to the Cubs and going with my dad is one of my favorite childhood memories. He taught me early on that you stick it out until the end of the game, win or lose, and you stay loyal to your team. Sounds like there is a lot of friendly bashing, and that is fine. BUT....I still have faith that the Cubs will win, every year I go in thinking that, and like a true fan (think Boston fans a few years ago) us Cubs fans will go crazy when it happens!

Yeah, but the nazi's didn't win it all... the White Sox did... so since the Nazi's lost, it must be like rooting for the Cubs!

Heck, even my Tigers have won it in my lifetime.

After all of that - the cubbies is STILL our loveable LOSERS

Routing for the White Sox is like watching Saving Private Ryan and routing for the Nazis.

So it must be doubly bad then that the Cubs can't win, and the Sox can win on a fluke!

And aren't you trivializing the whole WSC by saying a team that didn't deserve it won it?

It is sad that the Sox can't get fans to the games. I always enjoyed going when I lived there, but alas, now I'm relegated to the Tulsa Drillers (who are fun to watch too).

You can say whatever you want about the fans. It doesn't change the fact that they WON the World Series and you didn't. And you still won't this year either. I'm not a SOX fan. I'm a Astros and Phillies fan. I think the Astros were a fluke last year but not the Sox.

Woah woah woah-

Yes, the Southsiders won this year. But was it because they deserved it? I think not....How can you justify a team being honorably good when their record went untarnished mid-season and seats were still available at the walk-up window? I being an avid Cubs fan struggle to get bleacher seats weeks in advance. Why you ask? Because Cubbies aren't fair-weathered fans. Trust me, the Cubs might not pull it out this year but neither will the Welfare team you call Sox. The fluke happened and Im just sorry to say that it will be the last time you'll see that happen. You Sox fans need to get a clue on a real ballclub.

Nope.

Gotta be painful for cubbie fans having to deal with the south siders pulling it off and the cubs still not able to.

The answer is NO!
But you already know that.

The Cubbies looked good on Friday against the Brewers, but then got HAMMERED on Saturday. It was embarrasing. Do not lose faith in Da Cubs!

I grew up in a small town just south of Chicago in the Ernie Banks/Billy Williams/Ron Santo/Fergie Jenkins/Jack Brickhouse (Hey, Hey!)/etc. era and although it's been years since I've been to the "Friendly Confines" they're still my team. There's ALWAYS hope every spring!

I have lived in Missouri almost all my life and I bleed Red (no really...). I am a die hard cardinals fan and there is no way that the cubs will win the division this year. Sorry!

Ok, here it is toward the end of April and the Cubs are without Prior, Wood, and now Derek Lee. Can they keep a winning record until they are all healthy? They are, so far, 12 and 8 and playing decent. They took a couple from the Cards, but then got spanked by the same Cards the next weekend, and took a couple from the Marlins. They got the Brewers next. Any thoughts? Any other loyal Cubs fans out there?
