Are your beans chick peas (garbanzo beans)? That's the kind that hummus is made out of. Other beans probably make good dips, though. I haven't tried.
You don't have to cook them, just put them in a food processor or blender. I never use a recipe, but usually people put in a little tahini and olive oil and some seasonings. I made it without tahini or olive oil, and added garlic, red peppers, salt, and pepper.

Sorry--I don't know how to make the hummus, but on another thread I read about making "corn nuts" using the chickpeas. Get the canned kind, although I guess the dry/soaked ones would work...drain and sprinkle with garlic powder, onion powder, a little cayenne if you like spicy, then dump 'em on a cookie sheet and bake at about 425 for an hour or so, giving them a stir every 20 minutes or so...
The first time I made 'em, I turned it on low broil and burned them.
The second time...perfection! *L* Cooking reduces the 3.5 servings per can to 1 cup of nibblies per can...
Makes great little nibbly things (although that's a habit I'm trying to break!)...
